OEM Chrome wheel as a spare

I've got 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Wheel 2680 Rim 20" x 9" Chrome Clad 5YD56TRMAA wheels. I's like to replace the steel spare with a chrome one just like the other 4. Is that possible? Is there a problem doing this with the spare hanger/mechanicals?

It will fit, not sure if the hanger will damage the plastic clad though.

My steel rim spare is rusting at about 15 months from making contact with the hanger. I'm not sure what would survive unscathed mounted as per OEM.

Thanks! I'm not too worried about the damage as I'll put a spacer in between. I just want to make sure that everything will slide through the center hole.

I think I can solve that problem with a spacer of some sort. Just want to make sure the center hole is large enough for the hanger slides through.

I have a stock chrome 20x9 hanging with a new Cooper AT3 XLT 275/65-20 (33”).
Everything fit. I did put a piece of rubber sheet between the hanger and the chrome as I may rotate the spare with the others. I would think any durable material would protect the chrome.
I would have liked more sidewall, but a taller tire would not fit in the sparewell, and a smaller rim may not fit around the front brake. I may go with a taller tire/rim and external rack in the future.

Thanks for the insights on spare fitment. As i finish my lift/tire swap, I was curious about this. So you're saying anything larger than 33'' diameter will not fit? I was looking at 285/55/R22 for my 2020 Limited, which Discount Tire lists as a 34.37" diameter tire, but I would like to avoid the need for alternative spare locations or racks.

Watching this one as well. I just put 35s on mine and figured there's no way that would fit, but I would like to have a larger spare and wondering if anyone knows the largest size tire you can fit on the spare hanger.

My original spare was 32”.
The 33” fit but was tight.
I doubt a 34” would fit.

275/65/20 is a 34 inch tire… Is that what you have or did you perhaps go with 275/60/20? The 275/60 is a true 33.

I have heard about the largest that will fit is a 34.3 (295/70/18) but I can not confirm that. When my truck was on the lift having its oil change done I grabbed a 295/60/20 which is also a 34 inch and it looked like it might fit, but it would be awfully close. It’s my understanding it’s best to use a 34 or smaller. I have seen pictures on this forum of a 275/60/20 in the spare tire carrier with the metal shielding around it from the duel exhaust. Any tire larger needs the shielding removed.

Oops. Yes my tires are 275/60-20 (33”). Spare fits snug in the hole. It’s the clearance fore and aft that is tightest. I doubt a 34” would fit.
