I use foil paper to wrap around the top of power steering unit and it keeps most of the oil off that unit when removing the oil filter. Going to try the zip lock bag next time as well.

Wasn't there a short you tube presentation on changing the oil where they dropped / pivoted the front sway bar down ( without taking it off ) giving enough clearance to get at the filter and allowing less of a mess? Dealer's service manager balked when I said...1000 mile oil change...got the typical " no need ". Been doing that for years( cut filter open) , wanting to see what junk might have gotten lose during the first miles ( small casting pieces, a little bearing material, etc. )

Sawybar isn't the problem, it the electric power steering rack

Completed my first oil change at about 3000 miles. Put on a K&N filter with the nut on the bottom. Will be interesting to see if that makes the process any easier. Tried the ziplock bag trick but still made a pretty big mess. I don't mind the oil getting on the bottom of the truck - mine is undercoated with Krown anyway.

I posted this in another oil change thread...
