Went fishing for a few hours and returned to find engine still running! Is there a setting to automatically shut it off when key fob gets a certain distance away???

Thanks, John

I have tried to get out of my truck several times while it is still running. This truck is just so quiet that you forget its on. I had the same problem with my first 4-stroke outboard motor. I couldn't hear it, and tried to re-start it all the time. Fortunately it would just warn me with a light and sound from the dash, and not try to re-engage the starter.

Other vehicles will beep if you walk away with it running, I was surprised to find that the RAM won't alert you. It does display a nice quick note on he dashboard, but by this time you are already out of the vehicle and won't see it, not hear the soft chime either!

The issue is that if you are riding with someone like your wife or GF, you both get out, but she hops into the driver's seat and drives away.

Then they can't restart the truck to come pick you up because you have the key in your pocket!

At least if there was a warning beep you would get a gentle reminder to hand them the key fob! Too bad the RAM doesn't have this option in a uconnect setting somewhere!

Not ideal by any means but I think you can use the Sirius guardian app and click “engine stop” for any of those time you wonder if you turned it off. I use that after I use it to turn on truck and something comes up and I won’t be leaving as soon as I thought.

Don't let them drive your truck!

Seriously though, I was thinking It's very unlikely I would leave my truck running, but that could happen to a lot of people

Not any help, But I am sure that a couple of years ago with "another make" pickup I was waiting for the GF to get off work in a snow storm with the heater and radio on and a warning came up on the dash that the engine would shut of unless ok was pressed, took about 30 minutes.

Once the key fob is out of the vehicle, I don't believe it let's you shift it out of park.

I actually like that it doesnt beep at you.

With a truck there are many instances where one would need to get out of the cab while it’s running to load or unload something from the bed, hook up a trailer, etc...

It would annoy the hell out of me if my truck beeped at me every time I did this.

I finally tested this the other day. I got in my truck, started it, and then got out and left the key fob about 6 feet away.

I got back in the cab and saw the message stating that the key fob was not inside, but I was able to put the truck in drive. No beeping, no real warnings other than that quiet message on the dashboard display. I didn't try driving away, but it certainly allowed me to shift into drive, reverse, etc. with no complaints.

I've had a buddy that had to hire a cab to drive himself back to his wife once because of issues like this.

It just happened this week. I went on a business trip for five days. I left my Ram at a park-fly. When I arrived home yesterday. My truck was out of gas. I remembered that on Monday, the shuttle was coming, and I quickly grabbed my bags and jumped on. I didn’t turn the truck off. Not sure how long it would have run on half a tank, but it probably was awhile. The staff said since so many people remote start to warm up; a running vehicle isn’t unusual. It would be nice if there were a timeout feature if the fob is not detected for 15 minutes or so. Another senior moment. I’m sure it won’t be the last.

At least you didnt do it in a garage. It won't shut off till you shut it off or runs out of gas.

Good to know!! That's why I put a carbon monoxide detector in the garage. I don't trust myself!

Here’s my little trick to knowing if I didn’t shut the truck off. I manually lock the doors with switch on the door while getting out. If it’s still running guess won’t lock.... that’s right, the door . I Never forgot to shut my truck off again after doing this religiously.

well here's my 2 cents. if the truck were to shut off or not shift out of park if it did not detect the fob, what would you do when your battery in the fob is weak or dead ? If the fob is dead you can still start the vehicle and drive. Now here is something i noticed and may not be on all models. i have a half hour lunch, I was in my truck a few times last summer and if the vehicle is running for 30 min ( im guessing thats the time frame as i was getting ready to shut it off and go back to work ) the lights flash and the horn honks. freaked me out and i thought i hit the panic but i leave my keys in the center console. so im not sure how you could leave it running and not know.
