Bilstein 5100 Ride Quality

For those of you who have switched to the Bilstein 5100 front shocks. How did this change the way your truck rides? I noticed one person said their Ram rode like a dump truck after switching to the Bilsteins. I want to find out how common this is. I will just leave the Motofab spacers in place and forego changing shocks if I am going to lose the great ride my truck has.

Based on your research ONE person had a bad ride. So it sounds like that experience is not commo at all.

5100s aren't new. The overwhelming experience is positive. I had them on my 4th gen. I had the same experience as the majority of 5100 users.

I took 5 minutes to scan the last 3 pages of the previous thread,

Post #382: "...For what it's worth, mine still has a good bit of rake to it after having the 5100's installed on setting #4. But, that's exactly what I was wanting. I didn't like how low the front end sat and wanted to raise it up just a little. I don't plan on changing from stock wheels and tire size. I'm happy with how it turned out. And the ride is even more improved from what was already a nice ride. "

Post #407: "...My weight of my set up did not change. Previous wheel tire combo (22” sport wheels with the Goodyear’s) was about a pound heavier. So I don’t notice any difference in the performance of the truck, only ride characteristics which seem to be better over the potholed broken winter roads we have around here now. "

Post #425: "...Installed them last night with the 5100 on position 2 and the ReadyLift top spacer on. Gave me right at 3.5" of lift and the ride is way better than factory. Had it aligned and no issues at all. "

That is why I asked for more opinions on the ride quality.

I don’t know what your problem is but I have as much right to ask a question as you do. If you don’t like it, then don’t read it and try really hard no to be a jerk

I'm simply answering your query. I had a few minutes so looked it up. It's hard to read through 23 pages, maybe you were busy. Can't help it if you get upset over requested help. :unsure: :rolleyes:
 
I’ve had mine on my 19 non-ORP Laramie for a few weeks now. On stock 18’s at setting 5, they’re great! Truck doesn't float over dips and feels a little more confident w less body roll in curves. I'm mostly on freeways and fairly well maintained roads but they haven't felt harsh at all in my experience. I posted pics in the general Bilstein 5100 thread if you're interested.

To me they feel the same... ok they feel better but mostly the same. However the stock shocks are easier to push down when I had them removed Vs the Bilstein you gave to give it some more muscle, definitely a difference in compression. Only reason I went with the Bilstein is for the level. I have the ORP on my truck. I been looking for the Bilstein stock shocks that comes on the Rebel but no luck. Only found the rears and installed those.

I just finished installing a 1” spacer in the rear to give my truck a 1” ish rake in the truck for cargo and towing. Looks great and the ride feels like factory.
 
It’s an open forum. Let him ask the question. Move on on if you’re not interested. I’m curious as well what other current users are experiencing. Thanks to those who have replied! Very helpful.
 
I'm having issues with a lot of vibration from the rear. Do these shocks also work for air suspension models ?
 
I didn't go with the bilsteins, went with the RC 2in struts. It rides real good . I didn't have to deal with taking the spring off the strut. I used the spacer that went on top on my 16 and it rode rough..

Curious on what brand spacer you used in the rear? Was it the Daystar? Thinking of doing the same.

That's the point. You asked for negative feedback about a product that has out for many years and has been discussed on this and every other truck forum 1000s of times.

Specifically you wanted to know how common is it for folks to experience a bad ride with 5100s. A product that has overwhelmingly positive reviews, one that has been out for years and one that many 5thgen owners have been asking for for over a year.

Other users pointed you to several threads discussing the 5100 and your reply was that you were specifically looking for negative experiences.
