I'd like to piggyback on this post for a moment. Not Ram related but about FCA technicians as I am looking for some help to troubleshoot a weird display issue in my Hellcat.

What level technicians work on very hard to find electrical issues? Someone that can diagnose an intermittent Uconnect display issue. Are there various levels with extensive training in this department?

Thank you in advance.

FCA techs are certified level 0-3. I am a 3. Been with FCA for 10 years in January. We do things a little differently at my shop... we are not a “specialized” shop (engine guys, trans guys, electrical guys)... everyone can do pretty much everything but there are some guys that are better at certain things than others. So I get a lot of the harder diagnostic/off the wall stuff. Lots of the intermittent Uconnect or display issues we see are software related and nothing we can do to actually fix them, until FCA comes out with an update. But I’ll be willing to take a crack at it.

Thank you for that info. I wish I was closer, I would take the Hellcat in to you to give it a crack. I definitely understand software makes for some crazy issues. This particular issue has continued after the Uconnect display has been replaced 2 times. When the auto headlights come on, and the interior lighting dims to the setting on the dimmer rheostat, the dash cluster will be an the normal brightness setting and the Uconnect intermittently dims so low its barely visible in a dark environment and impossible to see in ambient day light. I am able to make this occur id I put it in reverse (M6) with the lights on then back out of reverse the Uconnect will be very dim nearly every time. When its dim and i change the brightness on the rheostat all the way up then back down to the normal setting the display will change accordingly. I am looking at paying the diagnosis charge if I can locate a technician that can really did into this. The experience I've had is its either replace parts trying to find the fault or wait for a response from FCA. Neither has resolved it and FCA is done looking at it, even though I am still under warranty.

I love the car but this is annoying. Any advice to help me in the right direction is helpful.

I will see if I can get my hands on one when it comes through the shop and see if I can duplicate your concern

I appreciate it! The last response from the regional tech and area manager is I am operating switches too fast but this happens intermittently on its own when the lights come on.

can you tell us the real reason why there has been no tsb/fix for the ac/whatever the hell is going on with that vent system? To be honest the only thing that i have a problem with on this truck. Ac is cool at best no where near any other vehicle i have ever been in, driving down the road without ac even on, temp drops 10-15 degrees for no reason, just with the vent on?

I’m an FCA dealer technician, not an FCA engineer. I think a lot of people assume that we are in constant communication with the higher ups at FCA because we work on the product, but that’s not the case. We’re left in the dark on a lot of stuff. Sometimes we see STAR cases regarding customer concerns that they are working on a fix for - sometimes with a projected release date, sometimes not.

Based on what I’ve read on here about what guys are doing to make it colder, I’d say it’s most likely a software problem. Either with the condenser fan speed at idle or blend door position.

I’ve had some issues with my HVAC that I know are software related, just waiting on a fix for them.

Grayman, Thanks for responding. I was a Service manager for 20 years at a GM dealership and the forums were a great help in diagnosing a problem. I am installing the factory LED headlamps and tail lamps this weekend. I want to find out if the LED fog lamps from a Laramie would be a direct plug and play into my Bighorn. Are they controlled by the BCM? Is the harness different. Thanks again for responding....Jim

As far as I know, yes, they are controlled by the BCM. I just checked a Limited with LED fogs against a Big Horn with halogens and yes, they are the same plug.

My Bighorn halogen fogs were swapped for the LEDs. It made a world of difference for sure. Looks and performance. I'm pretty sure it was just plug and pray. I do wish now that I could turn off whatever makes 1 light up when I turn or use the blinker.

Lol I love that feature, actually. Pretty sure you can disable it through the radio settings.

Hah, I like it at times, but mostly I figure other drivers are thinking I have a fog light out. The option to turn off directional lighting is on the upper trim levels with the LED headlights that turn in a direction with the wheel.

Any solution to the vibration issue that is plaguing the rams ?
Everywhere on this forum the dealers have replaced tires and road force balanced tires without a solution..feels like a torque converter issue to me..any advice on what to pursue next..also my dealership is unwilling to go further than what has been performed already on my vehicle..I'm kinda at it alone...thanks in advance.

DeanFX, Did you install the OEM fog lamp? I understand they are controlled by the BCM which maybe the reason for the malfunction you are having.

It’s not a malfunction, it’s a feature. Lots of FCA vehicles do this now.

Is there an easy / cheap way to add 360 cameras or,
at least a front camera to the 12 inch screen?

Thanks
