2020 Ram 1500 Limited and Longhorn Headlight redesign?

I just saw the article that the 2020 Ram 1500 won the IIHS top safety award which is really cool. In the article it mentions that only Limited and Longhorn models made after 5/19 are included because of a change in the headlight design. What changed?

The original adaptive LED's failed because of glare issues. There is not mention of what changed, It's just noted that they were refined, visually they look the same as the 2019 they likely tweeked the focus and cutoff of the lens itself to get rid of the glare issues.

It would be cool to know what changed and if FCA is going to retrofit older RAMs.

Are the Limited/Longhorn adaptive LED's that much better than the LED option package available on the regular Laramie and Bighorn? I don't have any complaints about the LED headlights on my truck, they are much better than the Ford headlights I had previously.

The adaptive headlights are huge. When I went from Infiniti to my '13 Ram I missed them a lot. It is a big reason why I upgraded as I do not have great vision at night.

They made them worse by about 50 feet. There was an article that showed charts how far they light up the road and the redesigned lights don't perform as well. However they don't distract oncoming traffic with glare so overall they make roads safer. It's a trade off.

I wrote about that in another thread. It appears the new headlights don’t do as good of a job in left-handed curves as the original design. So they’re better for oncoming traffic, but not for the driver. As the owner of a truck with those original headlights, I guess I’m okay with that.

I was figuring the answer was something like that, I am glad I got the previous version that lights up the road better.

My Limited headlights light up like two supernovas when I hit the high beams.
Pretty awesome, specially paired with the auto feature. Very nice to see about 5 miles ahead of you...

You guys make me want to take my truck out tonight after dark! I've only had it 4.5 months and I don't think I've ever driven it at night, so I have no idea how bright the headlights are.

I didn't even know the Limited LEDs were different! I had a Limited for a loaner and never noticed any difference in the headlights while driving over the LEDs on my Rebel.

Love my Laramie Limited lights. Finally see driving at night. Light em up. Half these yahoo's running on the roads in rural Maryland got every conceivable lightning aray. Blue, bright white, right side jack light beam pointing into trees. Vehicles with Front end damage sporting ditch lighting. Let alone Chevy trucks going by seems to always have a head light or running light out. These kids driving today got the vehicles dragging on the ground and avoiding newly painted roadway stripes for fear of undercarriage damage. So I just slide into the mix.

My 2020 Laramie Longhorn lights are great. I usually keep fog lights on and the road and sides of the road are very well lit. They move into the turns also which is a nice feature.
