What to do what to do. The never ending battle between stock, safe and “no” warranty issues vs unlocked pcm, tune, maybe a super/pro charger down the line, way down the line. But it’s always a want for more power and better drivability but “not” having issues if warranty work comes up. I know their is the pedal commander which is safe and a lot of people rave about, but no actual performance gains just drivability. Then their is the pulsar which claim performance gains but I’ve heard a lot of issues from it. It’s seriously the hardest decision. (Insert crying laughing face).

Just an fyi responses are welcome but this may be have been more of just a rant lol.

Funny how my perspectives have changed over the decades... I used to hop up everything I bought. Heck, I was well-known for sleepers, particularly enjoyed my twin turboed '95 S10 and blown and stroked big block Surburban... Then my 2014 Sport was tame with just better breathing and a dyno tune, and I crafted a look that suited me. My 2015 Dually is totally stock powertrain with only an interceptor module remapping the throttle to cure the excessive Cummins/AISIN lag, but modified for total function and a specific look. My 5th Gen, is as in my signature- again, function and look and I bought the last of the lifetime MaxCare warranties on it... Why? Pretty simple. I focus my go-fast needs where I'm not bucking against restrictions! Whether it be my '37 Chevy Business Coupe with a 350HP 350/700R4, or my '38 Chevy Sedan Delivery with a full 327 Camaro powertrain, or the '57 being built around an L59... Truly, this is where freedom is found - no warranty constraints, no lunacy of governmental restrictions, and you dollar nets you far more performance!

Perhaps you too may graduate to this alternate point of view...

You make a very good point, I love the truck and want it to be as reliable as possible and to last as long as possible. But sometimes some minor modifications can actually improve the proper performance of our trucks(and any vehicle for that matter). That’s actually where I’m stuck if I’m being 100% honest with myself.

I’d say if your looking for actual performance gains. You should tune it. Of course that’s the most expensive option however if a super charger is in your future it will be a required step anyway. You can waste your money on add on manipulating devices now but those will be useless later and maybe even before that time comes as you mentioned already. (Issues) ( no gains ).
Right off the batt I went the crazy route and yanked the 5.7 for a 6.4. Much better stronger engine in the same foot print. Turbo maybe in my future

How’s that 6.4 transplant? I like many others think it should’ve been an option to begin with. If you wouldn’t mind, either here or pm, how much did that transplant run you?

It’s not fare for me to say cost because I work closely with a huge mopar distributor. Plus he had a buyer for the 5.7 before it was out so that got money off of it as well. I will say it’s much cheaper than anything else that gives you the same hp and Tq gains.
FYI engine was brand new in the crate. Intake to oil pan.

had to swap parts over like the front timing cover oil pan and headers for the swap. Everything else works as normal.
Technically any good 6.4 will work when you have your 5.7 to swap parts from. Minimal stuff.

also in the swap needed new oil pan gasket and header gaskets plus oil and coolant and time. It was easy.

I think a 6.4 in a 1500 is Something that should be offered. The extra power and such in a 2500 is wasted due to difference in weight of the vehicle.

Interesting. Few of questions:
Was this a truck motor, or a car motor 6.4?
What did you do about the PCM? Use the stock, 5.7 PCM, or one for the 6.4s original application?
How did the exhaust manifolds/exhaust system pieces fit?
Did you do anything with the rear diff? The stock, DT axles are ZF 9.25, unless you order the 9.5. Do you think the rear will hold up to the increased torque/power?

Best regards,
Dusty

What kind of power numbers are you getting in your 1500 with the 6.4? Compared to a 2500 with the 6.4?
