What Fuel is everyone using?

Just want to find out what fuel grade people are using.

I have the 2019 Rebel with the 5.7 Hemi (no e-Torque) and the manual recommends the 89 octane but 87 is acceptable.
Trying to figure out if I should use the recommended 89 octane or the 87.

What is everyone else using?

I’ve used only 89 in both my 5.7’s over the years. On my trip down to SC from VA, I got 20.5 mpg - with a bike rack loaded up, and cargo in the bed. The tonneau cover probably helped. I have 3.92 gears as well, no etorque.

My commute mileage is usually around 16, with heavy stop and go.

Filled up for the first time yesterday and went with 89.

87 for my truck. No point in higher octane. Not gonna gain power and any mileage increase will be minimal, the extra cost will eliminate any savings.

I've ran 89 since the second fill up, just over 10,000 miles now and fuel mileage is good. I figured if RAM recommends 89, I'd use it.
Only use top tier gas! That's probably as important as 87 v 89 octane in my opinion.

I use 88 octane E15 primarily and 87 octane regular if it’s not available. Until a few years ago 89 octane was cheaper than regular 87 where I live.

I've been using 89 when I'm working the truck hard. Otherwise I'm using 87 without any issues. I know I'm losing some performance but for just tooling around I'm good with it.

When I was traveling through Idaho I saw that 85 was avalible. Definitely wouldn't run that!:p

As mentioned earlier, make sure you buy 89 from a gas station with decent turnover on their 89. I'd say middle grade is the least sold octane, so you are at higher risk of old gas. If it's unusually cheap, might be the station trying to unload their tank of 89 to avoid waste. Just something to think about when debating which octane to use.

If you wind up in a pinch in a rural area on a trip, go with 87. Not worth crumming up the fuel system with questionable 89 ... wait to go back to 89 until you're back in an area with more gas turnover.

Where do you live? Around here (south GA), it's $.30/gal between grades. I remember when it was only $.10/gal between.

Edit: Nevermind. I see you live it Portland. You are probably stuck with ridiculous prices for even 87.

It's around $3.25 right now.

$0.25 between grades at QT today...$2.59, $2.84, and $3.09 for 87, 89, and 93. I’ve been putting in 89 or 93 lately, simply testing for differences in economy. According to Fuelie, I’m typically putting in about 24 gallons, so the “premium for Premium” translates to $6/tank. As of yet, I can’t claim any statistically significant gains on 93.

I just traded my 2014 Sport in for this my 2019 Rebel. I used exclusively 89 in that truck the five years I had it. Dealer filled this one up with 87 and I can’t tell a difference. I’m getting 12.5 mpg right now but I’ve only done city driving since I got mine earlier this week.

On a similar note. I have a grocery store gas station (Harris teeter) that offers ethanol free 90 octane for .75/gal over 87. I’m wondering if there would be enough of a benefit in the no ethanol to justify using that?
