digging into the forums as a newby to see what all I can see about the RAM, I wanted to see what you all would change about your RAM 1500 after you have had it a while?
I saw this thread https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/over-a-year-ownership-and-well.10945/
I have yet to have mine delivered, but here are a few things I am wondering if I should have left off the entire build process and went aftermarket later:
1 : automatic running boards. After seeing how they were engineered and that the rear don't lift up all the way, I should have went with my first instinct and done aftermarket. I got caught up in the WOW factor. If I were to re-engineer, I would either add a 2nd motor to the rear hinge, OR, place the motor hinge in the center and have a dual-axis motor work 2 torsion bars to the front and to the rear. I would think that say a 500# person over time stepping on the rear of the step would cause the torsion bar to twist adding more of a gap between the step and the body when it is in the retracted position. Don't get me wrong, I still like them, but maybe a 2020/2021 version could be updated?
2 : eTorque. I waited 2.5 weeks to get my preorder in and get the pano roof. I finally said, skip it and just go straight Hemi. I know each person here has their own outtake on the subject. For me, though, I do 1/2 of my 10 miles to work stop lights and the other 1/2 on a 50 MPH stretch. I wanted to try the new product to see what it was all about.
3 : pano roof. this is one item I wanted in the Quad Cab but it wasn't "allowed". Are these still an issue? Would you have opted to get it or not get it?
4 : 3.55 or 3.92 gears. I am judging my 2 other vehicles on this and went with the 3.21. I do not do towing at all unless someone needs a trailer to bring a broke down vehicle home, etc. I wanted something for daily drive. I know my current ride (2016 Durango R/T) has AWD and 3.08 gears (less HP and less TQ than the newer Hemi V8) and I ENJOY driving the heck outta this thing. I know the truck will not perform nearly as well, but I miss having a dependable truck. AND, I was given one heck of a deal on a trade in for RAM TRUCK MONTH towards my pre-order.
5 : uConnect. I REALLY wanted the 12" because it looked so cool! But, I am used to the 8.4 NAV in my Durango and know that if I ever have to reach over to adjust something, I don't have to look -- muscle memory for the knob.
6 : tri-fold cover. I thought this was going to be the hard cover, but it will not be
I would have left it off and ordered the hard cover afterwards.
I think that is it to start out with. I know there are more and may even be more after my pre-order arrives.
