I'm getting ready to re-enter the truck world after having spent the last 5 years in a Mazda3 for commuting (2002 Ram 1500 Laramie prior to that). Well, the number of projects I've had to delay because I needed to borrow a truck has gotten too numerous to put off any further.

My general rule on purchasing vehicles is to never buy the first model year of a new generation. But, the press on this truck is too positive to ignore, so here I am to pick some brains of real-world owners.

Browse, Browse, Browse. Keep an open mind though. People with issues seek forums often to find answers, happy people not so much.

Love my Ram, other than a squeaky brake pad issue, it's been flawless, many others, not so lucky. I will offer advice about gas mileage though, expect to be at the pump at least twice as much as your current vehicle.

You might be right about avoiding first model year re-designs. I had a 2012 ram 1500 and it was flawless..put over 200k on it and then traded it for my current 19 big horn. It's had numerous problems and been back to the dealership countless times but I suppose that can happen to any vehicle and maybe was just unlucky this time around. Haven't given up on it yet though but I see me keeping it too long after the factory warranty is expired.

Yeah, I know. Luckily, my 35 mile one way commute turned into 1 mile and I typically do that on my bike if it's nice. I shouldn't feel it too harshly.

I'm looking at a Tradesman level, so hopefully, if I do go with the new RAM, I dodge (teehee!) most of the technology problems.

I will promise you this, comparing apples to apples no other brand comes close for the price! I just bought my Laramie 4x4 last week and with all the bells and whistles I wanted RAM was the only contender. I will openly state I was jaded by the 05 dodge transmission issues and swore dodge/ram off, my voice of reason (wife) talked me into taking a look at them and I am glad I did.
