People with gas mileage issues

Back roads for a bit. Best I’ve done so far.

Yea, nothing but 87 for me. That’s by far the best it’s ever said. And I got stuck running 50-55 behind slow people for quite awhile on this one.

I think speed seems to be the largest factor, at least on the rebel.
 
3 day old 2019 4x4 classic. Average of 14 mph. 65 mph speed limit highways. A few towns with 35 mph.
Texas gulf coast. I was expecting worse lol

Mine has been steadily improving. 14-15 to start, 17-18 at 6600 miles. I was very skeptical of the claims I read here about mileage improving from new, but I am a believer now. ECO mode seems to stay on a lot more now also.

Here in Iowa, wind is the biggest factor regarding fuel mileage. The difference between driving into vs. with the wind can easily be 3-4 MPG.

I also steer clear of Ethanol blends when possible, although in Iowa it's almost easier to avoid the wind.
 
What’s weird about these trucks to me, both MDS trucks I’ve owned the Eco light never really came on. Then I put exhaust on them, magnaflow on one and carven on the other, and boom eco light all the time. I guess the change in backpressure messes with it? Not sure but just seems to be the case.

Gotta love the massive bass rumbling effect and then popping noise as it goes in and out of MDS lol
 
I averaged for my normal driving according to the dash 14.5 for the first 9000 miles. Then i went in for an oil change and complained about the 2-1 shift sometimes being rough and MDS transition back to V8 was not smooth. They updated the pcm and tcm. This fixed the issues and now i am averaging 16.5, same type of driving. I just took a trip from ny to wv on I81 and averaged 20 for the trip. This route has a lot of hills and mountains. Before the updates i got about 17 on the same trip. So i don't know if its just breaking in or if the updates helped out.
 
At roughly 2250mi and city is right at 15mpg. Straight highway is 19-20mpg @cc 70mph.
 
I know it's a truck and it's not a big deal to me but my 2014 would get around 21-22 with 4x4 and 3.21 gears on the highway. My 2019 with 4x4 and 3.21 gears is like yours 18.7, it's just weird with improvements in arodynamics and slightly less weight that MPG is lower.

Strange. I have a 2019 Laramie new body 3.21 gears getting about 18.5 hwy in Okla. I Rented a 2019 Big Horn Classic for the week in Alaska and put 1700 miles on it, this truck gets 21 MPG and the eco light comes on all the time, at any speed. Not sure why the classic ECO seems to work a lot better.
 
I'm up to 17 mpg now with summer gas, mostly stop and go and suburban driving to and from work. Doing a 500 mile trip next weekend to WI will see how it does on the highway.

I just took my first road trip. Very hilly from the Green Mountains to NYC - Off Road Group with Faulken A/T tires - NO Etorque and NO air ride - the ride is very undulating until you get half way. I averaged 65-70mph and plenty of traffic. 3.21 gears. Truck had 220 miles when I left. I was really impressed. By the time I arrived I was edging 21mpg. This is a V8 crewcab loaded Laramie

Given the tires and the OR package this made me very happy. I used premium fuel. I don’t mind spoiling my RAM

Now that I have 4500 miles and on second oil change, started to do some hard throttle runs up to 70 about once a week where it is safe, entering freeway, etc and I swear the mileage seems to be improving. Besides, the Magnaflow cat back sounds so darn good. Maybe these engines need a little "drive it like you stole it" once in a while to complete engine break in. Of course, all warmed up and miles since oil change low. I did regular Pennzoil (non synthetic) oil change along with Mobil 1 filter just to allow a little more break in miles before switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum full synthetic. I usually use Mobil 1 but am switching for the MS-6395 certification.
 
I'm not sure why some get so high vs others. I started around 13 and have increased to about 14 in mostly city driving which is about what is expect. I'm sure lift and tires make a difference too.

The biggest variable might be temps and fuel blends. I live in ND and it's been cold here (below freezing) for most of the time I've owned it.

This response will be highly unpopular because it doesn't blame the vehicle.

In all likelihood, even considering typography and temperature, the biggest reason will be driving style. Second will be driving environment. It is highly unlikely and improbable that any of us have exactly the same driving style and vehicle environment to critically compare each others experience. Impatient driving style will always be the major determinant to lower gas mileage. Short trips and many stops will kill good mileage. Heck, when I go through the car wash I usually see a 0.3 average MPG drop.

2019 Ram 1500 Billet Silver Laramie Quad Cab 2WD, 5.7 Hemi, 8HP75, 3.21 axle, 33 gallon fuel tank, factory dual exhaust, 18” wheels. Now at: 014228 miles.
 
I posted on the “bad fuel mileage” thread just today but here’s my Limited 3.21 no etorque, started with 400 miles on the odometer, ended about 665, highway appx 65 mostly. 21.6
Easy driving, very little traffic, rolling hills so equaled out both ways as far as up and down.

I’m at 20 MPG with like 200miles. Drove it with 8mi off the lot. On first tank.

My mpg isn't great,im averaging around 11 in town and 17 on the hwy with 14k on the clock.
Had all the updates done when I took it in to get the side mirrior replaced not long ago. Don't get anywhere close to what the window sticker says..

I’d presume with E Locker and ORG you have the 3.92’s, that and even just a mix of city/hiway would drop you into the teens. Mud and snow tires? EPA probably tests a Tradesman 4x2 quad cab, likely anyway. On this trip it was 2 lane divided each way with little traffic so I had no reason to speed. 75-80mph it would likely be 3-4 mpg less.

If I'm on an open highway with no wind, I'll be around 18ish @ 65-70. I have 2" lift, AT tires, and 3.92. So that's about what I'd expect. Been averaging 15.4 all around over 3500 miles. That's with crappy in town driving being 50% or more.
