Window tint questions

I had my fronts done, and then I had it taken off as it really was an issue for me backing up at night around here.

I just had the front door windows matched to the rears and went with just a strip on the windshield. It’s cloudy out so it probably won’t be as dark when the sun is out.

I had mine done with nothing on the windshield, 20% on the fronts and 5% on the rears and back glass over the tempered glass.
We can't go any darker than 20% up front here in Texas so this is what I've always done on my pickups.
It's always worked well and I never have any trouble at night (the backup cam & park assist do most of the work for ya).
Depending on the level of light outside and the angle your're looking in at makes it seem darker/lighter up front.
The 5% on the rear is DARK and nearly impossible to see through at night from the outside but not bad at all from inside the cab.
It also makes the fronts seem darker at all times as considerably less light is let in through the rear of the cab.
I had Huper Optik IR rejecting film installed on this pickup as the cab is HUGE and my A/C seemed to be taking too long to cool the cabin, it helped with this considerably and I will be installing IR film only moving forward. I love it and its worth every penny as a upgrade IMO

It’s actually way better than I thought it would be. You can still see out very easily at night. I will try and get some pictures but not sure if they will show very well.

I plan on doing 20% on the fronts and adding 35% on top of the factory just so that I get the heat transfer help back there. They will be slightly darker than the fronts but still able to see at night.

My main question concern is seeing that weird halo/grid effect from my Polarized Costa Sunglasses. My wife has the lower level 3M film in her car and I hate it. Any suggestions on film that won’t give me that?

...This is my first post so that hopefully gives me the right to ramble on? I'm posting photos below, on a sunny day with sun at my back. With 20% matching tint, the vast amount of light coming through the windshield can make them appear too light at times. Today they look pretty even....

You have my EXACT same truck, 1st one on here i've seen, equipped IDENTICAL, except i DO have the 3.92 : ) and it has Alpine, other than that, TWINS : ) I've always wondered how mine would look with OWL turned in, i think i prefer them out, here she is : )





i would've liked the tint a little darker, but once you start it can get you crazy, noticing every angle, trying all different %'s ($$$) so this time i so i just left her alone -
She is STOCK To The BONE : )

These trucks look great stock - we'll save a lot of money in that regard. The one I test drove with 3.92 also had the OWL's, I like the look - gives a little contrast. Nice job with the windshield vinyl!

Hello Rampat! I agree the 3M Color Stable reflects a lot of light inside, I didn't notice that 3D effect with my Costa's however. Had this tint on my previous GMC and now have it on my Jeep. With the freedom tops removed on my Jeep, and the windows rolled up, the light reflecting off the side windows gets annoying. You'll also notice it on your back window at night if you were to use that tint on your truck. However, It's blacker, prettier tint from the outside which is probably why it gets a lot of use.

That's why I went with the Llumar, I drive with Costa's, haven't noticed anything yet - I'll pay extra attention to it today and let you know if there are any of those effects. The receipt says "Llumar ATR 20".

I believe the default tint from factory is 20%. I wish they were a tad darker. I went with 35% (a bit lighter than the back) on my fronts but a lot of people match the back with 20%.

I had 5% all around on my srt-10, tad but darker in the rear as it was tinted over the factory tint. Never did the windshield as i found that even dumber and less safe then 5% all around. It was a ***** to see at night and hard as **** to back up. Had to roll the windows down all the time. Also did 5% on my other cars and had the same issue. Have left my last 2 trucks tintless

I have 5% on my front's, sunroof, and 5% over factory in the rears, and I love it. I actually want the fronts a little darker to match the back now. I was going to do my windshield, but the place where I get my tint said they were too skeptical about doing it with the windshield sensors, and people have issues with the tint messing with them in the past. So I ended up straying away from that. Overall, I like the darkness of it. You can kind of see through fronts during the day, but not at all through the rears.
