Any thoughts on whether the OEM tonneau cover for $550 is a good value or should I order an aftermarket version? Looking for tri-fold.

Many people think the hard tri-fold tonneau cover from the factory is made by bakflip which is around $800 aftermarket. It's one of the best selling covers on the market btw.

Thanks for sharing your insight. My order went in Dec. 18, 2018 so it would be too late to change anyway. But at least I feel better.

Please keep us updated on the cover install...I've thought about purchasing the Mopar brand as well. Not sure if I want the rollup or hard fold...

Just had the local dealer install the Mopar trifold (hard cover) last Friday. I think it looks great. Quality seems fine but will update if anything seems off.

Easy to use, locks with tailgate, low profile and kids love crawling around on it. I washed the truck over the weekend and only a few drops made it into the bed, overall seemed like it would keep everything dry back there.

Beautiful cover, looks even better than the factory option. You say kids climb on it...wow! Mine should arrive soon.

Installed mine today (Mopar hard tri-fold). Got a good price (for NY) of 735$ plus tax, which is 18% off, by ordering from a local dealer’s website and picking it up from their parts department. I took my time but it went on pretty easy. A few minor adjustments were needed before tightening everything down.

Only hang up was two of the pre drilled holes for the tie down clips were way too tight to push the threaded pin in by hand as the directions indicated. I had to put a screwdriver through it a couple times to get the millings out and then used a rubber mallet and cardboard to hammer it in without damaging anything.

Expecting snow and ice tomorrow morning so should be a good test for fitment and leaks. I’ll update soon.

Bed stayed dry after the snow and sleet a few days ago and some rain this morning. So far so good! Taking a 460 mi. road trip this weekend. I’ll see if the cover stays tight and aligned after hitting the highways.

Had a lot of rain this morning...

This happened while parked... not thrilled, but I guess 100% rainproof with a trifold is hard to expect. After my trip I’ll try to make some adjustments. I can see some daylight from underneath by the cab end passenger corner. A lot got in by the tailgate too. Time to experiment!

what is the weight limit on the hardcover drive hold? I have one on my Avalanche and I love it because I can put my 45 gallon freshwater bladder on to refill my travel trailers fresh water while on the beach. 45 gallons of water weighs about 350 lb so wondering if these will hold that kind of weight also. Any info would be great.

Also do the tri folds fit the bed that has Ram boxes

Most tri-folds are rated in the 300-400 lb range, but we're talking about evenly distributed weight.... which means snow. If you were to jump up on one of these covers and stand on it then it's surely to do some damage.

Thanks for showing your installed pictures of the Mopar.

I will guess that the tailgate leaks come from the gap between the tailgate and the bed, which is probably not covered by the Mopar tri-fold.

Can you post a picture of the gasket they use at the joint where the last panel rests on top of the tailgate? I'd like to see how that gasket looks on the Mopar tri-fold..

I saw a few people had leakage there in one of the other forms. And they are suggesting it's the same thing it's actually where the tailgate meets the sidewall it must leak there and then get into the bed as opposed to where the cover meets the tailgate

Had same issue. Contact bakflip for warranty. They’ll ask for pictures. The water over the wheel wells is due to the screw piercing the drain rail incorrectly. I got new rails sent for free. Also - they suggested mounting the bulk head foam strip onto the cover, since it doesn’t stick well to your bed spray, just like mine. These are all things they explained to me. Im Installing new rails in a few days.

Hard covers are nice and look great. The only complain I have with the one I had on my 2012 was it would freeze along the joints during the winter and then you could not open it. I had the carry a can of de-icer to spray along the joints when I needed to fold it open for use during the cold winters. I now have a canvas tri fold on my 2019.

Mopar cover looks great! I have a solid undercover tonneau on my 2006 but the trifold looks be more beneficial and I plan to install one for my 2019 ram 1500. How does it secure and stay open when all three pieces are opened to haul something?
