Ok, this is more for posterity than anything else since I'm too old and arthritic to be sleeping in my truck bed :D . That said, I had to climb in there and lay down to get something under my toolbox. So while I was there I figured I would see if I fit in the bed with the tailgate up. I do, from corner to corner, and I'm 5'10". It's not a lot of room but I was able to lay flat and turn on either side without my head hitting the tailgate. So if you had a shorter wife/girlfriend (or husband/boyfriend, as may be) they could sleep next to you as well. They'd probably have to be maybe 5'6" or less.

So future people if you are wondering if you can sleep in a crew cab short bed, with the tailgate up, the answer is yes. If you are 5'10" or less or don't mind jamming your head against the bed or tailgate.

Caught about a 10 minute nap in my Laramie bed while installing my sentry bed cover. Thought I could do it myself, but needed to call help. Arms were tired, so I just rested a few minutes until help arrived. Needs some cushion, but roomy enough!

I got a really nice nap on the back seat coming back from a wedding yesterday. Seven hour drive in shifts, after bridesmaid duties and hauling a wrought iron arch to Texas and back. Would have liked a couple more inches, but was quite cozy. :)

If your truck's bed is a bit dirty?
The rear seat of the Ram is pretty comfy too, if you go "couch style" and put your legs off to the side!

I can state that my prior Rebel Gen4's rear seats were actually reasonably suitable for cozytime with a ladyfriend
