So the previous owner of my truck (2019 Ram 2500 HD Big Horn 6.4L V8) moved the backup camera from the tailgate handle to a hole he drilled next to the license plate. I assume it was so that the camera is still useful with the tailgate down. But the guidance lines aren't very useful with the camera in this location so I want to move it back to the tailgate handle.
Problem is, in the process of moving the camera, the black coax cable was cut and spliced and now will not reach the tailgate handle. I need to find or make a replacement one. There's a connection just inside the rear bumper, thank god, so it's not a 20ft cable that needs to be replaced. The current (shortened and spliced) cable is about 2ft long. Looks like the original was about 3-4ft ish?
I've tried looking up information for this cable and the connectors, but haven't been able to find much. That, plus I don't know much about working with coax cables. Here's what I have found:
Circuit J220
Connection XY522A
Gauge .14
Also, on the ram body builder site, there's some info about the cameras/connectors/cables. This is a quote from the site, and although it's for chassis cabs with surround view I thought it may be relevant to my question:
"Chassis cabs equipped with surround view (XAK) will have a camera (P/N 68417514AA) and a 2.5 meter cable (P/N 68396016AB) shipped in cab of the vehicle. It may be possible to use the chassis cab loose ship componants on a pick up with a digital camera system. Due to connector differences, the connector on the 2.5 meter cable will not plug directly in to the connector on the vehicle without an adaptor. Adaptors are available at aftermarket."
