I bought my truck a little over a week ago. As I posted in another thread when they washed it they installed quite a few scratches. I took it in for them to fix the scratches and picked it up today. I walked around and looked where they had scratched it and they looked better. I was in a hurry because I had a meeting to get to, i did mention to the sales manager that they looked better but I could still see them.

Fast forward to this afternoon, I've thought about it and was able to give the truck a more thorough look over. There are actually more scratches than before. Most if not all are in the clearcoat.

Wouldn't be a huge deal but I'm planning on getting a ceramic coating and now am looking at a complete buff/polish before I can get it coated. I'll do the buffing myself but am looking at 3-4 hours work fixing the dealers issue.

Should I ask for compensation or leave it alone? Not interested in free oil changes, they are too far away for that. Maybe a cheaper accessory?

Like I said in the other thread, it's a truck and will eventually get scratches or dings, but I atleast want to start out without scratches

Wanted to add, going rate in my area is a minimum of $200 for a buff/polish on a large vehicle

Ask, maybe you'll get something, just be prepared for another trip to point them out then another trip to arrange the detail buff... Then maybe they don't get them all? How much is your time worth? That's assuming there is a good detail shop close at hand that you can take it to and know you'll be satisfied. Hard call.
Or, get it on record with an email from the dealer giving you the ok that they will detail it, then wait till a service trip.

Ask for a clearcoat re-spray. In addition to fixing the scratches it will better protect your paint in the future because the clearcoat on these trucks is too thin

Lol I wish it were that simple, but no one is going to reclear a vehicle for wash induced swirls or scratches. That is a huge multi thousand dollar job and is unnecessary.

OP usually when you get a ceramic coat it includes a buff and polish. Are you going to do the ceramic yourself? If not and a shop has given you a quote without doing paint correction first I would find another place. There’s no point in doing ceramic on paint that is not close to perfect and I would never have a shop apply ceramic that wasn’t going to do paint correction first.

Or

Get an orbital, clay bar the truck, some cutting solution from chemical guys, some wax and call it good

Sorry but this is typical dealer work, and most $200 detailers will do the same. You should have asked them to not wash it. Sad but true. 98% of people won't see the swirls. Bring to a good detailer but be prepared to pay $400-1200 for a proper detail. I would charge $600 and I charge half what others do in my area for a full correction.

There is a good detail shop near me that I can trust the work. 90% of the paint is flawless, they didnt swirl the paint at all. Just scratched the hell out of it in places. Almost looks like after it was washed and dried, someone walked around it and used a dirty rag to wipe stuff off. The hood especially looks like there was something stuck to it and they scrubbed a 4" spot with 1 finger in a rag, that's about how wide it is. Passenger rear fender has probably 10 1-inch long scratches above the wheel well. Driver side door has a a series of scratches about the width of a hand that runs from just under the mirror to just under the door handle in a kind of wave.

I can remove the scratches, but I was looking forward to doing single stage polish as the paint was in pretty good shape before they detailed it prior to me getting the keys. Now it's going to be a a bit more involved, not the end of the world but an annoyance. I was planning on doing the coating myself as well.

Then pick up a Porter Cable 7424 and have at it. No better satisfaction then diy, and saving money in the process.

Any detailer who is doing coatings should be doing paint correction before coating it. Leave it alone and let your detailer handle fixing it.
