sooooo when i bought my truck they couldn't find keys so i had to wait for them to order a set of key/keyfobs to show it to me and then have it programmed- took about a week- (i waited becuz it was the ONLY 4x2 black on black on black level 2 with 3.92 gear truck around for hundreds of miles)

But anyway, took delivery of the truck about 4 months ago, went on my merry way....Today i was in Service getting brake pedal recall done and all of a sudden the service guy comes up to me and says, "guess what? we couldn't find what truck this belonged to because no vin# on tag, so a few minutes ago the porter walked around the lot pressing it and yours beeped, we don't need it, do you want it? Um, heck yeah i do...lol

what are the odds my truck woulda been in service the exact time they found a key with no tag and they were on the hunt for the vehicle that matched the fob?! lol Now i got a 3rd fob, no cost : )

I keep a valet key around neck but wanted a 3rd FOB to keep INSIDE the truck (hidden of course) because many times i'll go to run up the road and just grab wallet but no keys and have to go back and get fob since valet key only opens the door.... (Huge P.I.T.A : ) but i wasn't gonna buy one- the price is ridiculous : )

And yes, i suppose someone COULD break in and try to start it and it WOULD start, but what are the odds of that? No better than what happened today i suppose......lol

I suggest you take some tin foil and wrap the FOB you leave in the truck. That should prevent it from starting with that FOB until you unwrap it, which would make the break in and start even less likely.

Or put it in an Altoids tin box. Nice little faraday cage.

all good ideas, but knowing me i'll prolly risk it : ) But really, having this 3rd fob to leave inside will work out even better than the proximity key i had in my Laramie becuz with that one, it wouldn't LET ME lock a "engine starter key" inside the vehicle, and i STILL always managed to be always somewhere that my fob wasn't lol....

(you have to understand, i am the kinda gal that makes "52 trips to get one deck of cards" so i'm pretty jazzed to be done with all that "back and forth" but i never woulda sprung for the cost for a 3rd fob on my own, that is a cost i couldn't justify to my husband, he'd be like "Good Gravy, just always bring your key when you go out to your truck"...."Ahhhh, have we just met, honey?! Not that simple for meeeeeeee" lol : )
