Has anyone purchased and installed the Weathertech tailgate cover. They claim it is molded to fit the factory screw holes etc. If you have one, is that true. I'd prefer that opposed to just a rectangle that fits so so. Thanks

I purchased but did not fully install the Weathertech tailgate cover. It looks nice but does not give adequate protection. You can find the install sheet on their website, uses velcro in spots along with a glued on edge and OEM screws. More info and picture of what I replaced the Weathertech with in thread below.

Thanks for the link to the other thread and the info. What did you do with the weathertech pad, or is it no good now as the adhesive has been used?

Their site says the weathertech is only 1/8" thick. Was that the case with yours.

You could also go to line-x and have just the tailgate sprayed.

I had the bed and tailgate done on mine and they took the tailgate apart and sprayed so as not to spray over the screws and so it could be taken apart for repairs if needed.

I only partially installed the Weathertech with the tailgate screws while I was evaluating the effectiveness/worthiness and looking for more options. Weathertech is thin, velcro pads and edge strip glued on. The company also spends plenty on advertising and design which it does well, but to me it is more form than function.
Drop in bed liners were available but I was having a hard time finding just the tailgate mat. I have a similar tailgate mat on my 2001 and it has seen it's share of concrete, rocks, dirt, gravel and shoveling. The ribbed design and what appears to be a polypropylene material (think gas can like) will protect the tailgate from impacts. I don't see the Weathertech or line-x doing the same job from impact. Both Line-x and Weathertech look nice and will protect the finish but I don't see them taking the impacts from dropping large chunks of broken concrete and such onto the bed tailgate. The bed from my 2001 Dodge seems stronger than the 2019 Ram, don't have any data but EPA mpg goals, drive the design for lighter materials. I also question the paint protection from 2001 to 2019, also EPA driven.
I have done various jobs and spilled plenty of liquids on my 2001 - all cleaned up nicely - no complaints.
I'm happy with the tailgate mat, took a while to find on a website and to filter out the appropriate one for the Ram. It's also comfortable to sit on and holds my beverage of choice well for breaks and end of day refreshment - I mean fluid replenishment/hydratiion. Looks like another form versus function or beer versus water.

Did you throw it away, or do you still have? Or was that for your older truck and not your 5th Gen.

Side by side view of the mats. Top photo is the reverse side of the Weathertech. The white to the left is the covering for the adhesive strip. The strip is attached to the tailgate and mat using the alcohol wipes prior to attaching the strip and velcro. The center velcro came without the pastic covering and Weathertech promptly sent another. The black washers are used with the OEM screws.
The other mat is sent with longer allen head type bolts and allen key that replace the OEMs.

Thanks for the pics. I was thinking of offering to buy your Weathertech, but am leaning toward the other one also.

People that have this mat, other than the cupped sides how is it worth more than double a std rubber mat from Dee Zee or whomever? I like WT stuff but I'm not seeing the value here.

I went with DeeZee for the truck bed and the firm cover for the tailgate. Am happy with that combo.
