Hi guys

I just got the WeatherTech mud flap set in for my 2022 1500 (no fender flares version). On prior videos and threads I’ve seen that these flaps (and other brands)come with a clear tape to apply to protect paint from mud flap. However, mine did not come with any tape and the directions don’t even mention it. Have they changed the design where it’s no longer needed? Anyone else with a 2022 set get similar directions?

I do have some 3M double sided clear tape if that’s all it is, just curious why they don’t include it anymore.

The double sided tape isn't what you want. The clear tape is usually similar to a clear PPF to prevent scratches where the mud flaps touch the outside painted surfaces. Do the WeatherTechs touch side painted surfaces, or only inside the wheel well?

I haven’t installed yet, but based on just a quick look from holding it in place, appears it only touches paint in the thin area inside the wheel well , I.e. not on the side of the truck exterior.

I have the Weathertech with no flares and they only contact the fender lip mounting surface and do not require protection tape, that is needed more for the mopar flaps.

Thanks guys. Yeah just installed them and I don’t see any need for protective tape based on the design and mounting. They look great, like almost OEM.

I also just installed the Weathertechs and I have the flares. The flaps came with the clear film but I decided not to use it. First, the film stuck out, about a 1/8" past the flap, that didn't look good and a trap for dirt, waxes, etc. The Weathertechs don't engage with the outboard part of the flares, there is a small gap between the flare and the flap.
