Warranty question

Hey all,

Apologies if this has been asked before. Real quick: I have a 7 year 125k extended warranty on my 2022 Ram. It's got about 45k on the clock. When I take it to the dealer to get the oil changed (really just for documentation purposes) they'll always suggest things like the 4x4 service, differentials, fuel system cleaning etc.

I always decline these because they are not items that are outlined in my service schedule for the truck. I also have already done all these services myself (including a transmission service at 30k miles, which I plan to repeat every 30k miles).

Any reason I have to do these for my warranty?

I keep a log and any relevant receipts just in case. To pay them to do it would be outrageously costly. They'll try to convince you otherwise, but they make a lot of money that way.

I do dread my first oil change in the '25. Those just aren't the same since the dipstick went away. I hate overpaying, but I'm not at the comfort level to do it myself.

I do all my services myself, you won't lose your warranty if you keep all your receipts and a log of when you did your services, there is even a section in the official Mopar (my Mopar) website to log and upload your receipts, however you don't even have to do that to maintain your warranty.

For the OP, just as long as you follow the recommendation of the maintenance schedule you are fine. If it was an issue, like say they saw a leak, the dealership should be writing that up for a warranty repair. If they are pushing for service work out of recommendation, it's likely for them to make money, the service department is where most of the dealership profit is at.

I've been changing oil on vehicles without dipsticks for 20 years, it's even easier. Sometimes dipsticks don't show accurate oil level until you drive a few miles to circulate the oil level and wait 5 minutes. I've found, at least on my BMWs, that the oil level is accurate a lot earlier, though I still drive it a bit to get the most accurate level reading. I think the Hurricane oil change is easier than the 5.7L due to oil filter & location.

Just stick 1/2 a quart less than you think will fill it up (still within safe level), check the oil monitor, and top off 1/8 - 1/4 at a time until it reads full.

Follow the manual and document.
There are plenty of other threads here about changing the transmission fluid….
Here’s my take.
If you’re going to sell it/trade it in after 125K, don’t bother changing the fluid…unless you specifically meet the owner’s manual requirements for towing.
In short, RAM considers trans fluid lifetime unless you tow.
The Transmission manufacturer states 60K.

This will turn into a pissing match in seconds…but my point is this.
The transmission manufacturer doesn’t work on or warranty the transmission for your truck.
When I had my 2015 Limited, I got the “you should change the fluid in your transmission” at every oil change, to which I replied…. What the does the manufacturer recommend on the mileage.. he’s ask if I towed a lot or drove on dusty roads.
No, the answer… and then he’d come back with there is no service milage interval.

However, back in 2015 I purchased Max Care that was lifetime… to the original owner only.
If you plan on keeping your truck past 125K.. then yes, my advice is change it every 60ish.
If you’re trading in or offing it, and don’t tow, don’t bother.
