Just did my 2nd oil change today. The 1st oil change was a PITA due to the mess it created. The oil drain plug is right above the sway bar causing oil to splash on it as it drains. This is the 1st oil change since I installed the ValvoMax Oil Drain System which was installed during the last oil change (cost about $40 plus tax and shipping from their website and includes everything you need). I checked for any leaks or dripping and found none, so it's pretty much sealed tightly. To change the oil, screw on the hose attachment and direct the hose to any container to catch the old oil. As you tighten the hose attachment, it presses on a spring loaded ball type valve and releases the old oil. I purchased a 2 gallon plastic gas can to collect the old oil since this was the only container I could find that did not leak (the black oil containers were usually poorly made and leaked due to poor mating between the container and the crew cap). When oil is drained, unscrew the hose attachment, wipe off the oil and screw the protective cap back on (finger tighten only). I also rigged up a large dollar store funnel which I trimmed and attached a flexible tube I had laying around the garage to use for the oil filter change (which is also in a crappy location, see last pic, and can get very messy. I tried the zip lock method like others had and it still got a little messy). I placed the funnel under the oil filter after loosening the filter and put the tubing in the catch container. I continued to loosen the filter by hand until oil starts to pour out at which time I let the oil drip into the funnel. Once most of the oil drains out of the filter, carefully remove the filter and funnel. I got a little drip but but a quick wipe down took care of that. I'll take the container to the county landfill/recycling center, dump the old oil, and reuse the container for the next oil change. A lot less mess than my 1st oil change. Attached are some pics,.

I'm going to try this out. I agree the drain plug is in a bad spot. I hate having to wipe everything down after and still get a few stray drips coming off the components after replacing the filter.

Two thumbs up on that. I have a Fumoto valve for the drain plug, so I'm not concerned with that, but I like what you came up with for the filter. I've had pretty good luck with the quart size ziploc bag, but it's still pretty easy to make a mess. I'm gonna look for a funnel that will work for that before my next oil change. Thanks for posting this!

Have you had any issues with how close the valve is to the stay bar? I know when I jacked my Ram up from 1 side, the sway bat got closer to the plug.
