Your shared knowledge has been invaluable in educating this first-time buyer truck buyer to find the RAM that matches our need
My wife and seek a Ram 1500 that will serve our cave diving and 'in town' needs while in our new home near Cancun, Mexico
Much to our frustration, we have been unable to find our desired vehicle anywhere in Mexico
While 2500 Crew Cabs with 6'4" box are plentiful here, we prefer not to pass on the better ride and fuel economy of the 5th Gen 1500
Thus have we begun our search of the US market for a vehicle to import
To date, our experience with sites such as TruCar, Cars.com, etc has been they
- do not permit a nationwide search; or
- lack the ability to search for options we need (6'4" box, ParkSense); or
- return inaccurate search results that do not have the needed options
Your suggestions for finding our desired vehicle will be greatly appreciated
Configuration and options (as well as our motivations for each) follow
- 2019 or 2020 model year < 36,000 miles
(avoids the 1st year depreciation 'hit' while allowing the purchase of a 'new' extended service contract)
- Crew Cab
(comfort for 4 passengers traveling up to an hour from town to cave, and back at the end of the day)
- 6’4” box
(the 5'7" box is insufficient to carry SCUBA tanks and equipment for four divers doing morning and afternoon dives - we tried)
- 4WD
(roads from the highway to the cave are not the best, particularly in the rainy summer season)
- Vehicle maximum payload 1,600 lbs or greater
(four divers + tanks and equipment, no problem with a 'lower' trim package (Big Horn / LoneStar) to get the necessary payload)
- 5.7L Hemi
(eTorque preferred but not required)
- Equipment group or installed options inclusive of ParkSense
(for the wife's 'in town' use)
- Preferred exterior color white
(that said, any color other than black will likely be acceptable in the Mexican heat)
