Loaded Laramie yesterday. I wanted another Tundra but was impressed by the Ram. I've read the Rams have come a long way recently as far as reliability is concerned, I hope this is the case as all I ever had to do with the Tundras (2 in 17 years) is change the oil. Now I anxiously await the arrival of the Ram. I've never ordered a new truck before so this will be interesting, I'm not a patient guy.
Any owners here that were loyal to another brand (specifically Toyota) and made the switch? Curious as to your experience.
TIA for any thoughts

in 2009 we switched from Dodge trks to Tundra Trds .... have had several Tundras since then ... NEVER had to do anything to any of them .. you will find many on this site resent the Toyota name .. i on the other hand respect them and can tell you the Toyota holds the resale value much better than others .. wife was first to go to Ram when she traded her 2016 Limited TRD .. i liked her new trk so much i traded my 2018 Limited TRD 3 mos later ... NOT sorry for the change over to Ram .. we have had NO problems so far ... we think you will be happy with your new Ram also

Most likely the ram will have a few issues over the years if your honest. Probably nothing major and some of that will be attributed to the fact that the ram has about 3x as many options as the tundra so there is a lot more to go wrong. They are very different trucks and the tundra is overpriced imo for what it offers. Reliability is not the only measure of a trucks value and utility.

you really need to check these out before you make a post like that .. i know lots of Dodge/Ram guys resent Toyotas BUT our TRD Limiteds had everything that our 2 Rams have now .... i just hope IF i choose to trade in my Ram in one year with 15,000 miles that the trade in is as good as it was with my "over priced" Tundra Limited .. and when i go away in my trk pulling my camper with my family "Reliability is not the only measure of a trucks value and utility.

I just switched to a Ram Rebel 12 from a 2013 tundra rock warrior. I will never look back.
My tundra had a few things fixed under warranty(water pump, driver door lock actuator, and hvac diverter box?? thing under dash that controls where air goes ($2000!))
I hope that the new ram will be as reliable if not better.
The technology is leap years ahead of toyota's and especially tundras.

After 2 Silverados and a Sierra, I'm making the switch. I was so very disappointed in the new Silverados and Ram simply stepped up their game.

Like you, I am a bit nervous about reliability as my last two trucks have required nothing more thsn oil changes. This will be my first Ram.

Love seeing all these new Ram owners. Coming from an 05 6 speed Cummins, this big horn is loaded and plush in ways I didnt know. Almost 700 miles, and I love this thing.

I drove the latest loaded version of each truck available, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Nissan and Toyota. I'm normally a Ford guy but have maintained several toyota cars in our family well past 250k miles with minimal expense. I'm fairly brand agnostic (although I did love our Acura tl). The Toyotas drive was significantly worse than most of the other models. The noise and harshness level was also poor for such a expensive truck.
The tech was also pretty far behind (not even android auto, headlights were not great in the top modeletc). It was nice to see they finally added the active safety features. The interior fit and finish was ok but the design was definitely lagging behind other models. Toyota makes great cars and small pickups but they have not yet modernized their large pickup trucks. The gas mileage on the 5.7 4x4 when looking through the owners forums is dismal. All those things are a lot to trade off when paying full price for a late model pickup. I think if they dropped the initial purchase price 6-9k for a loaded model it would be a much better value.

Again though if your willing to trade off all those things for reliability I would stay with the Toyota. Most here will just buy a $2500 extended warranty on a $60,000 truck and not worry about it. Same as many Toyota owners probably dont mind paying a extra $3-4,000 for gas over 100k miles @13mpg vs 16 @$3 a gallon. We all have to decide what tradeoffs we are willing to make and Toyota will most likely still be more reliable than Ram.

looking at mpg posts in forums is no indication of what a vehicle actually getting ... our Tundras never got less than 16 mpg hc and often would average high 17s ... on longer road trips without much stop and go a few time i got over 20 mpg from my TRD ... but i guess i drive like i am 69 yrs old, which means only 5 over speed limit

Wow, those mpg's in a tundra are great. My mpg averaged between 13.5 and 14.5 (4.10 rearend) best I ever got was 17 on a 1300 mile trip to florida.

Thanks for all the comments...I tell my local friends all the time and we always get a good laugh that here you have folks that can afford 50-60 thousand dollar trucks who are concerned with MPG on said trucks. Honestly, MPG wasn't even in the equation when I was shopping.

I have aways owned Ford and Chevy till 2012. Then I test drove a Ram. Traded in my 2010 Avalanche with only 28,000 miles. There was no comparison. Although I always liked the Fords and Chevys and they were reliable, they didn't hold a candle to the Ram. I traded the 2012 Ram Laramie for a 2014 Laramie Longhorn. A big step up. Then when the 2019's came out, I had to have one. Traded for a
Limited. Have 1800 miles on it. No problems but the 2 recalls that I have yet to have done. All three Rams were completely reliable except a few recalls. Mostly software related. There is no way I would ever go to another brand. Never liked Toyotas or Nissan. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

I have a 2013 Tundra sitting in my driveway right now and I love that truck, but when I saw the 2019 Ram I was sold and I’m waiting for it to come in. I work on just about every make and model and rarely get excited about a vehicle. I am a little concerned about reliability on the Ram coming from the Tundra because, like you, all I have done to it is oil changes and replaced the battery, but I’m taking that leap of faith and looking forward to owning my first Ram.

I have had 2 Tundras as well. Recently sold my 2016 Tundra and made the (short) leap to Ram. There is absolutely nothing that I miss about the Tundra, with the exception of the Retrax Tonneau cover that went with it. The Ram is hands down a better truck than the Tundra. Gas mileage and interior tech being the biggest advantages.

Only thing I miss about my tundra...
... not having a truck payment.

Well, here goes. I currently have a Nissan Frontier with 155K on it. Its been a good truck. Prior to that I had a Titan, which I loved! So why am I trading the Frontier? Well, first and foremost I want a full size vehicle. I do a lot of kayak fishing and need something to haul boats and gear to the ocean. In researching new vehicles, I really liked the Ram. So to make a long story a tiny bit shorter, I ordered a Laramie and am waiting impatiently for it to get built.
