My truck is in for repair, front end work a lot of it. I have the Mopar platinum I think it's called. $100 deductible, one part that is not in stock and no idea when it will be. I found another dealer who has the part and informed the dealer of that. I asked if they can source from them and they said I would have to pay 20% of the cost plus shipping to get it. I asked why and said I don't want to do that it is about a 2000 part. Is this a true policy ?
I called the other dealer and am trying to get an appointment to just let them fix the vehicle instead since they are equally far from my home in opposite directions.
Just seems wrong to me. but I never had a repair before.

It sounds like Peter is robbing Paul to get your business.
Take the rental and let them hash it out. They have service levels. They don’t want your truck sitting there for a long time.

I had a 2011 years ago, the dealership destroyed the head attempting to do the manifold bolts. They couldnt fix it so they shipped it to another dealer pretty far away.
I was out my truck for over a month. All they said to me was “we’ll give you a free oil change”. Thats the last time I even drove down that street.

They gave me a rental. It wasnt a truck, but it got me to my bootycalls and back. I mean work. Lol

Thats what i was going to do and still might. The first dealer said I have to pay a diagnostic fee, like 250. I took the position you didn't fix it and the tech are really good. That and the holidays set me back anyway so I am giving them another chance, otherwise I will bring it to the other place.

Unfortunately, dealers have no requirement to share parts. So if the dealer your truck is at doesn't have it, and it's not an easy part to get, the other dealership that does have it doesn't want to lose that asset, because if a customer came to them and needed itz then they could fix their vehicle, make customer happy, and make the money in the labor as well as the part, vs just selling the partz and potentially having an unhappy customer, like you, because they no longer have the part in stock

I get it. It's an integral part and would involve undoing all the work the other dealer did. Waste of time and money to me but it is what it is. I will call the first dealer again and see what the story is about the parts. Thanks

That makes sense. Some will trade out vehicles but not parts.
