Just wanted to share my trip report from this past weekend.

We drove from Bismarck, ND to McPherson, KS and back. Cruise control was set for the majority of the trip and always within 5 miles per hour of the posted speed.

We drove 1863.3 miles in 4 days, the truck was running for 30:09:06 for an average of 61.8 miles per hour. Per the trip computer on the dash we averaged 19.4 miles per gallon. Based on fuel receipts we averaged 17.22 miles per gallon.

I have not filled since I got home as I still have 1/2 a tank.

For driving at the speed limit in a flat part of the country on an empty highway with a 3.21 axle and minimal cargo, that is pretty bad :(

I never got close to that hand calculated number with my f150 3.5 EcoBoost. So, in comparison, not terrible. I think I'm getting better mpg with mine on the interstates. My L.O.M. has shown over 20 mpg. But I don't bother to hand calculate. I figure what's the point. It is what is.

For sure. I am just perplexed how the real numbers and the EPA numbers are so far off. Do they drive it down a hill or something?

Mine was off by .4 mpg for the last tank. Said 15.7 was actually 15.3 I really dont think that's too much to be off. My old 05 would be off by 3-4 mpgs haha

I’ve not been that far off, but I’ve seen the trip computer at least 0.5 mpg optimistic at times.

17+ mpg doesn’t sound too bad running against the wind (presuming “we” means at least a couple of humans and some gear). Those conditions might have actually suited a 3.92 nicely, but you never know.

We...the wife and myself and a suitcase. Add 100 pounds of dogs for part of the trip as well.

We managed a tailwind from Aberdeen, SD to Omaha the first day. The headwind was quite bad running south from Lincoln, NE to McPherson, KS and then the next day we had a headwind running the reverse. On the last day we managed a tailwind from Pierre, SD pretty much to home which was nice.
