I have a 2019 ram 1500 with the 5.7 in it $119,000 miles. I pulled the trailer before this happened the night before this happened and I got up in the morning started my truck drove to get some breakfast and my transmission was shifting really funny and all the sudden my cooling fan started winding like I've never heard it before and my temperature started to rise I made it home without it overheating turned it off and I figured right away it was going to be the thermostat so I had someone bring me over the thermostat and I took the radiator cap off and it was creamy and red and I know the smell transmission fluid everyone keeps saying it's the oil cooler but I'm telling you right now I know the smell of transmission fluid it is transmission fluid for sure 100% it's transmission fluid I pull the dipstick for the oil there's nothing on it it's clean I pulled the cap for the filler it's clean it's not oil anyways question being here is thoughts on flushing the transmission new filter is it worth it is it worth the $1,200 doing it or should I just plan on a new transmission It wasn't slipping it wasn't shifting grade after this point I had some concerns before all this with the temperature of the transmission slowly rising over what I felt was normal The normal temperature to me being between 180° and 190° I was seeing temperatures of upwards of 205° when it was 19 below zero outside I was concerned then about damage of the transmission or at least replacing the transmission fluid thinking maybe that would help I've told some with this truck I've had it since 21,000 mi it's been good to me as far as the transmission and stuff I have smelled the transmission before after towing maybe about 50,000 miles ago one time after that it shifted a little hard for a little while but then it kind of smoothed out I figured it was just a short-term memory in the computer that was causing that I was actually going to do a computer reset until this happened because of the way it was shifting after pulling the trailer the night before so I just need some thoughts on maybe what anyone would recommend on the transmission issue cuz I don't know if it's a complete waste of time to try and save it at this point I understand I need to get the fluid out of the motor at this point to try and save the plastic components and the rubber components although I would assume at this point everyone's going to recommend replacing everything and I don't even know if it's worth it anymore cuz the frame is bent and I'm fighting State farm are getting a totaled out and I'm just frustrated so any suggestions or advice would be appreciated

There's a lot of variables you have to consider with a larger repair, like age of the vehicle, number of miles, return on your money, personal financial situation, current value of the truck, etc. These are all different for everyone. Personally, I have a tough time spending a large amount of money on something I'm not going to keep much longer, and I also have a tough time spending a lot of money on a new truck.
