I've just bought a used 2022 Ram 1500 Sport GT. Looking in the performance section in the dash I spotted a top speed recorded at 192km/h. From what I recall the speed limit cut off should be around 160km/h.

Was there an option with a tazer, JScan, or AlphaOBD to bypass the speed limiter or could I assume this truck had the ECM unlocked and was running a tuner? I'm not liking the thought that the truck saw a beating like that on a regular basis, it's only got 80,000km on it and seems to be in near perfect condition.

No, you can't by pass the speed limiter without a tune or the NoLimitz device. Tazer, JScan, and AlfaOBD won't let you.

Hmmm, I'll have to look at this "nolimitz" device. I'm hoping it was tuned and that I can just buy a tuner and not have to send the ECM away. Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

It was when the instrument cluster was tested at the factory and run up over the speed limiter number for full sweep testing. There are posts from years ago with people getting salesmen fired by claiming that their new truck, with less than 25 miles on it, was driven up to 120mph. And, doing a conversion of mph to kph, 120mph equals 192kph.

it’s not impossible that it happened but I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. These powertrains are much tougher than you think. Nothing you can do about it now so just enjoy your truck.

I bought a plug in power programmer for one of my 4th Gens about 10 years ago but don’t remember the brand as I returned it shortly after. It removed the factory 106 mph speed limiter and I easily hit 120 mph while still pulling before common sense took over. I backed off with visions of blowing a tire well beyond its speed ratings.

Now that's interesting. Thanks!
