Thinking Slick 50 ?

Whats up men . Driving a 2020 ram 1500 laramie, question is would slick 50 be a good additive and will it void my warrenty. Asking cause i cant stand the noise after a cold start in the mornings here in so cal.
Please weigh in in thoughts
 
I didn't even know that they still made Slick 50. Wow that is a blast from the past. Your biggest change that may help is your oil filter. Use the K&N Gold filter and see if that works for you like others on here have mentioned. And also, I don't think Slick 50 would void anything but others on here may have input on that... With engine machining tolerances being way better than 10+ years ago I would avoid anything with particles in it.

Along with a new oil filter, try taking your foot off the brake pedal just as the engine turns over after pressing start

Don't use Slick 50, I think it is literally made with snake oil

The noise you hear, what does it sound like, is it just the odd single clunk at startup, or one is several clanks?

The only time I get the clank, clank, clank sound is when I did a cold start, and turned it off without driving (such as moving to park real quick). The next time I cold start, I will get about 3-5 clanks in a row, I think due to oil starvation somewhere in the engine caused by the short start-up and shut-down while the oil was still cold.

Otherwise I never hear the sound. As mentioned, could be related to the OEM oil filter, maybe the drain valve. Either way, I avoid cold start/shut downs.

Sounds like its coming from the bottom of my engine not necessarily like a grinding noise bur similar. It goes away after driving for a bit .
 
Way I read this probably a single lifter, I had/have same. Lifters got done. Noise was gone for about 2-3k now it’s back in same place. I’m just living with it as first time getting it looked at or action to resolve it was exhausting!! Also had a fca tech tell me It was normal won’t effect longevity of engine. Even after vid of it on FB page. He said his own 5th gen makes that noise....Unfortunately, I asked more technical questions after and never responded back.....

It seemed only in the colder months of year. I’ve tried all different combinations. For me only way I was able to get rid of it or almost gone was going to 0-20 Pen platinum with 2 BG moas which is a expensive *** oil change.

I would recommend against using so-called oil additives, especially those where the primary element used in the product is Teflon (PTFE). Teflon is a solid and has a tendency to clump together and bond, enlarging the particle size. Depending on the actual size of the Teflon flake, most, if not all, will be trapped in the oil filter on the first pass. As the Teflon becomes heated over time and the clumps get bigger, eventually all of it gets trapped in the filter.

This condition is counter intuitive to utilizing an oil filter that can trap as smallest particle as possible. Teflon may work for a while if the filter is 30+ micron, but most high efficiency filters nowadays are 10-15 micron first pass.

I remember when Slick50 was new and all the rage. I mailed them a letter (this was long before email) asking what happened to the blowby. Would it Teflon-coat the oxygen sensor and/or the catalytic converter? They didn't answer, they just sent a bunch of printed material. Every single vehicle they used as a test bed was not equipped with an oxygen sensor. That was enough to keep me from adding it to my '88 Ranger.

In later years I ran across an instructor who mentioned that he'd seen it grow strands, like when you stretch Teflon tape to the breaking point, that clogged an engine's oil passages. That was before variable valve timing and hydraulic cylinder deactivation. Imagine what it could do to them!

If it's even still available, think of something else.
 
I’m not one for additives, as quality oil/filter and timely interval changes are best. BG moa is legit, no smoke and mirrors just a lot of R&D and a lot of money spent on development. They also back their talk with money for repairs. The unfortunate thing is 2 small cans need to be added being the oil capacity of our hemi.
 
I would NOT put that stuff in my engine. First off, no one really knows what's in it. Secondly, if the engine is making some kind of unexpected noise, masking the sound with goop will not cure the root problem. In the old days when I had $200 dollar Sh*t boxes, we would just crank up the radio to drown out the engine rap...it lasted for a little while, and then BOOM! Lastly, the only way a warranty can be denied is if it can be proven that the additive caused the damage in question. So if your motor quit, they can't just say..."oh, you used Slick 50?...forget it, we aren't honoring your warranty."..

Take it to the dealer and have them diagnose. If possible, leave it overnight and be there when the tech starts it cold.
Also, do not add SL50. It’s possible to interfere with the MDS.

I left it over night and they said nothing is the matter. I guess you have to have a thrown code. But i have an oil change coming up. Thinking of leaving it at the dealer over night
 
The thing I would do first is to use Full Synthetic Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in 0-20W oil and the K&N Gold filter. If that doesn't get rid of the ticking then it is going to be a characteristic of the truck or it is time to check the PSI of the oil pump.
