Alright just came out of a 2013 F150 not too bad except no interior presence and replacing bad evaporator.... Bought a 15' Camaro 1LE only because trucks were scarce and got 4 grand more on trade pe covid... Now I'm going through no truck remorse. So my question, I have been doing some homework and I know the major likes for some are the 3.92 gears, HID bulbs (vision) and fender liners (noise). The trucks i'm looking at have around 40k miles 5.7 Hemi with halogen, 3.21 gears. They do have the level 2 equipment. I do not use it for work. Just wondering what to look for as well as would not having these options be a deal breaker knowing what you know now. Was looking at 17-20 F150 or 19-20 Ram but seems like more bang for dollar with Ram.

2nd for LEDs, didn’t look at trucks without them when I was shopping. For me also sport package(body color bumpers), I’m not a fan of the chrome but that’s purely personal preference.
Not sure your budget but earlier this year I was in same spot, also considered even going new if price was close but ended up with:
2019 Bighorn North Edition
19k miles
Level 2 equip group
LED light package
5.7 hemi no et
3.92 gear
15 months left on bumper to bumper warranty
8.4 UConnect
Rear wheel liners
MSRP OF 52k+
Purchase price $34k

Had everything I wanted, except the pano would have been a nice to have. I haven’t looked back and don’t regret going used one bit. Just make sure it’s a good enough deal to justify used over new.

I bought a 2019 Limited w/ 19K on it for $44K in Feb 2020. Still under B2B warranty at 28k miles. Truck has been absolutely flawless so far. I have 3.21 gears, and for me that's just fine. No pano, which is the way I like it also. No leaks! The one thing on your list that is a must have to me is the LED lights. They are fantastic!

Trust me if I had a 40k budget I'm sure I could find more options I want. Right now trying to stay under 30k. So pretty much means 3 or 4 in a 100 mile radius. Big horn quad cabs mostly. Found a 2019 crew cab 2wd level 2, 3.21 with 40k miles for 28k dollars. I can settle on some things, but I like bright colors reds, blues etc this 1 is red, crew cab a must (this is a crew) just missing the few extras.

What is your budget? Edit... I see under $30k. You are looking at 2wd quad cabs or 2016 MY for that pricing in this market.

This truck looks like a good deal in WI. Less than 5k miles. Big Horn level 2 ir looks like with LED lighting group, bed utility group with spray liner, running boards, wheel well liners. Bright red.

Looks like only normal maintenance based on the Carfax you can access on the dealers page. From the carfax you can view the original window sticker, MSRP over $51k.

You are looking at about $20 extra per month per $1000 financed over 60 months. Can you swing an extra $160-$170 per month for a nearly new truck that is much more what you want? You might be able to talk them down a little because they have had it 5 months even though they advertise as a no haggle (on the new vehicle, not trade) dealer group (my parents have bought from their Chevy and Nissan dealers).

That is a very nice truck. I just bought my Camaro in September and deferred for 90 days so need some wiggle room for negative equity.....

Only you know your budget. Keep in mind that if you settle you might be looking to trade again in a year. Prices are inflated right now and if they come back to Earth then you will really take a bath. If $30k is the limit you may want to look at 4th gen trucks with more features vs 5th gen stripper models. Comparable F-150s are way more expensive than RAM.

I bought a 2019 ram equipment level 2 with 3.21 rear end non e-torque. Love the truck so far. 19 mpg mixed driving. Has power when I need it. Led headlights are the bomb

Touche. I just want to get back into a truck. I had a 13' F150 with no backup camera, no frills so even if the Ram is a bit of a stripper it has so much more than my F150 had. Another question I had is I looked at another 19' quad cab with around 40k miles ad had the lifter tick at start up and went away. Normal not normal?

That is the infamous hemi tick. Many people have had that for 100k miles with no issue. Seems to be related to using 87 octane gas instead of 89+ as recommended in the manual, and not frequent enough oil changes. But lots that did these things still get the tick.

An idea of how crazy used prices are now... Saw a 2019 with 6k miles on a dealer lot tonight that typically has OK (not great, not bad) prices. Almost an identical to my truck (see sig). $43600. I paid $100 less than that new end of Sept on a new 2020.

Just for reference, this is all the used RAMs that dealer has. Almost all are 2019 Big Horns. There is a 2015 for $25k that seems nice. A 4th gen RAM will be way nicer than your 2013 F150 was. That red one I linked seems like more of a long term truck for what you are looking for. Talked to my dad tonight and he said he knows people who have negotiated with them. Maybe they would take $36k? No, I don't have a vested interest in this dealer, truck just seems like a good fit.

2017 Red Laramie $29k.

I made the Camaro mistake a few years ago. Bought a 2010 SS in June and hated it by the end of November. I took a huge bath on that one, and it took me several years to get out from under that negative equity. It's not likely you'll take my unsolicited advice, but I'll give it anyway. Don't make the same mistake I made. The used truck market is crazy expensive right now. I don't think you'll be happy with what you can get for $30k for very long. My advice to you would be to suck it up and keep driving the Camaro at least until you get to the break-even point. By then, hopefully, the used truck market will be back to more normal conditions. And you'll be able to afford more truck for the money.

The way the price of gas is going up the decline in used truck prices may not be that far behind.
12,000 miles at 15 mpg equals 800 gallons. $2/gal = $1600, $3/gal = $2400, $4/gal = 3200, $5/gal = $4000

"The relationship between gasoline prices and the demand for automobiles was the subject of several economic studies in the 1980s in the aftermath of the gasoline price shocks of the 1970s. Those studies found that higher gasoline prices increased the demand for smaller, more-fuel-efficient vehicles relative to larger, less-efficient vehicles.3 That relationship continues to hold with recent vehicle sales, according to several current economic studies.4"

Sold my 2019 Limited to a dealer last week for $41,000. Truck had 40,000 miles on it. Couldn’t pass up that price. My TRX hopefully arrives next week or so.

Who on earth doesn’t like stripper models? :p:p:p
