The amount of pop up ads and other crap on this site, prevents access to forums

AdBlock... I shut if off once in a while to give the site some money, but I can't navigate the site without the blocking software either.

I remember, when forums, were started and run by enthusiasts, and not just a commercial profit machine.

Not too many people want to voluntarily run a free forum. It's a boatload of work and cost, especially once it starts getting a critical mass of users. Even if you get some good volunteers it's a ridiculous amount of work and cost. I've been a moderator on such a forum before, way less people than this, and just for a moderator it's a lot of work.

AdBlock and a privacy friendly browser like Brake and Firefox.

It has to be expensive and labor intensive these days with software updates, and keeping on top of all the virus and identity hacks. And on occasion they can get pulled into crazy lawsuits. Online advertising revenue is a big black hole but I would guess an automotive enthusiast forum should attract reasonable monies for what it is.

There's certainly nothing stopping the OP from starting his/her own free forum, with no ads. Get enough people to come to it and you can get exactly what you're looking for. I have known a few people that did that. You know what happened? In a couple of years the site was popular enough that the owner could sell ads on the site and monetize the site, and that's what they did.

I don't see any ads. Being a site supporter was worth it for me. This is one of the better forums that i have been a part of and i support it simply because of the quality.

I don't have any popups because I have turned those off. I do display the ads though. Keeps the site in business.

You may consider becoming a site supporter. You will see no ads, and you get a nifty green badge
not entirely true. I am a site supporter and still get the vendors on the side.

endorsed ads, but still ads.

I don't have a problem with useless ads or whatever this site does to make money. But the forum button on the homepage is broken with safari.

The love of money ruins everything.
Can't tell if there is sarcasm in your post but most of us don't work for free. Overall this site has probably cost me money (in mods) but I really love my truck and the community here is mostly very helpful. I will become a $ supporter tonite and challenge the members of this site to consider doing if you feel you have received a benefit.. $25 is a couple of pizzas, which my wife and doctor have told me to cut down on anyway.

Hell, I got a $250 check after I bought my truck 100% due to this site. PONY UP!

You can also support the site by purchasing through ads here. Meaning if you are going to buy something anyway, click on that company's ad from here before you do. Then the site gets affiliate marketing money. This is what I've done several times. Everybody wins.

This is what I’m talking about

Been there, done that. Literally 20 years ago. Had a server right in my bedroom running phpbb forum. Not worth the headache. There’s also plenty of forums now. So yeah you guys are probably right and they deserve some revenue.

Unfortunately one of the side effects of the internet is that everyone thinks everything should be free. No one wants to pay for anything of value. I make less money playing with my bands these days than we used to make in the 80s because no one wants to pay a cover charge any more, and they won't pay for CDs and music because they can steal it for free on the internet.
