Sunroof shade making noise when opening/closing; cable hanging out

My retractable sunroof shade makes an angry noise when it gets to its last quarter of retraction. Today I noticed that there was a metal cable that was sticking out as well (see picture). Has anyone experienced this, and what did you do to fix it?
