Sorry for the long read.

I have a 2025 Big Horn --- details in my signature.
The truck is 1 1/2 years old. 14,000 miles.
Basic non-nave 8.4 UConnect. No proximity feature.

The truck is garaged 95% of the time, doors unlocked
Until this past Sunday, anytime I opened any of the unlocked doors, interior lights, puddle lights, dash lights came on.

On Sunday, I opened a door and no lights came on. Thought it was a dead battery. However, the engine cranked and the volt reading was around 13.8.
Took it to my dealer, they cannot find any issues/codes and say that (after 15 minutes, the truck shuts everything down automatically).
I told them I understand the greater logic; however, everything worked until Sunday. At a minimum, the interior lights should come on anytime you open any doors.

They are baffled also, and going to reach out to Ram engineers. Both batteries check out as good.
The truck only comes alive when I use the fob to lock or unlock.

Any of you have this issue? any ideas what is causing this all of a sudden?
Any OTA updates to prevent battery drain can cause this?

Make sure you didn't accidentally hit the button that toggles whether lights come on when doors open or not. It's on overhead console Screenshot_20251029-153453.png

did the issue return after you shut off the truck?
if not, possible that you didn't close one of the doors tight?

2 1/2 days at the dealer's shop, and their response was (it is normal for the truck to shut down everything after 15 minutes). They could not explain why it worked for year and a half. They agree that at a minimum, the dome lights should come on.

for the heck of it, I disconnected both batteries for 20 minutes or so.
Vola - I can open any door at any time, and all of the interior, puddle, etc. etc. come on.

Strange!

You are driving a large computer. Doing the reboot sometimes helps stuff.

Welcome to the new world. I stopped just short of slapping my infotainment center like it was a '70's television. Maybe I should have followed through with it.

Agreed ---
What I want to know is what triggered the issue in the first place.
And, why dealers dont know or want to disconnect batteries to reset the system as the last resort for issues that dont trigger a code.

To bad the dealer wasn't smart enough to do that. Look for another shop.

Unfortunately, when you go to dealer, they hook up their computer and it takes them through troubleshooting steps that they have to follow if it's a warranty issue. If they don't follow the steps, Ram will deny warranty repair until they complete the steps

Yes, the ten step. But in the name of customer satisfaction(🤣), how about actually think for a change, and try step eleven?????
