Going to be a tough one to upgrade if you're just wanting a drop in replacement. The factory Alpine sub is a 2 ohm triple voice coil sub. Each voice coil is 2 ohms with a seperate channel from the amp feeding each one. Nobody makes a triple voice coil subwoofer. Best you could do is a 2 ohm dual voice coil sub, but then you are losing some power from the last channel not being hooked up.
I have the Alpine system so I am facing the same dilemma. I likely will just be adding a standalone sub and amp.
