Hello,
I could use your help. I'm not sure if this is actually a problem or just due to bad road conditions...
On my 2019 Ram Gen 5, I sometimes notice that the steering feels a bit strange or “notchy.” You can feel it especially when there’s a lane shift in a construction zone on the highway — when you steer into the curve, it feels like you’re pushing against some resistance, as if you were steering out of a rut, and it’s the same feeling when you steer back.
This only happens at higher speeds, around 60–100 km/h. I haven’t driven faster in a construction zone yet… Below that, in city traffic, it’s not noticeable.

I’ve heard that Stellantis has had issues with the steering around the center position before, where the steering can feel notchy or resistant.
Does anyone know this problem, or are the highways just really that bad — and I’m simply feeling it so clearly because of the 22-inch rims? Especially on the Highway A4 from Bad Hersfeld to Chemnitz?

I’d be glad to know I’m not the only one experiencing this 😉 — and to hear if anyone has found a solution.

“Notchy” feeling steering can be an indication of a worn or damaged steering rack. How many miles are on your truck? We’ve owned three 5th gens and none of them felt notchy at all.
