Here's the story: I bought a matching full-sized wheel so I have a matching full-sized spare. I'm going to be getting new tires soon, a set of five. And I ordered new pressure sensors since mine are six years old and I don't want to risk paying mounting and balancing twice if they start dying on me.

Has anybody done this? I figure I'll go drive half an hour and the new sensors will register, but what about the spare? Will it confiuse things? It won't be spinning, so I think it won't activate and start signalling, but I'm not sure.

I drove over 2,000 miles with a full sized spare that matched the other 4 wheels with a TPM installed and had no issues.

I was just thinking about this very same thing two days ago..figured I rsally should upgrade my spare to match my new larger tires..now I know a TPMS in spare won't be a problem.

Secondary question I have...anyone know how big a spare will fit in place of OEM spare?

I have a 285/60R20 on a 20x9", so about 33.5"..guess I can get under there and tape measure it approximately.

Mounted up a matching tire to a full wheel with TPMS bought from Discount Tire. They programmed it up, and as they rotate the tires, the system gets updated. I forget if they have to do something each rotation, or if the system corrects itself after driving a bit. 30k miles (so several rotations in) so far.

Automatic update on the Ram. Some vehicles need an update. I do a 5 tire rotation on a Honda Fit and have to program each new wheel position.

Guys have fit 35's underneath, if you check youtube I know there are videos.

Thanks much, will do.

Figured, I better not tempt fate for too long, plus a little extra weight in back will help it ride smoother.

Waiting for some spacers to show up this coming weekend, then will get the Foxes on next week after.

Yeah I NEED to grab a 5th tire, but trying to decide, buy same wheel and tire$$$$$$$, or drop same size on the OEM spare 18"

34-34.5" is about the largest you can fit in the spare tire location without removing the heat shields. I have a 295/70R18 spare, and I have to wedge it in there to get it to fit. Depending on your math, my tire is 34.1-34.5" in diameter.

Not much difference in price!! Tires are crazy expensive anymore!!:mad::mad:

285/75R18 vs 285/65R20 running I paid $345 when I bought. I should of just went 5 at the time.

Same here...save $$ by using OEM Spare rim, but not much $$ on tire, and then offset is +19mm instead of our 0/+1mm currently. Also, have to pay for mount & balance for 18" tire..another new Fuel rim is $500, but mount/balance are free. Since we both have p-coated wheels, new spare won't match, but neither does the OEM spare. I'm leaning a bit towards getting a 5th to match what I have..then it's a true match height, weight, offset, etc.🤷‍♂️

Yessss Haha I was thinking all the same, can always do a Wrangler 5 tire rotation and use all 5 so you're getting to use the $1k investment :eek::ROFLMAO:

Update: 5 new tires, 5 new sensors. Took it for a drive after I picked it up. It took 5 miles (which included some freeway) before all of a sudden, the display changed to show 43 and 44 psi all around. Obviously the installer inflated things to max.
I left the spare at that higher pressure when I reinstalled it underneath.

In the morning I will adjust the pressures when the tires are cold and ensure that none of them show 40+ psi
