Hello... This might be useful, or stupid. You decide.
2019 RAM 1500 5.7 non-etorque. 80k miles. oil change every 5k, manifolds replaced. service up to date. (trans fluid exchange has been done. anyone whos at 60k.. I HIGHLY SUGGEST GETTING IT DONE. My fluid was black as night. I don't tow.. shes a pavement princess. back to topic
So recently in the past few moths when I've started my truck cold, I hear a noise like a tic tic coming from my engine. Thought about leaking manifolds and well everything like cams, lifts and such. So... this might be a fluke. The other day I pulled out my green air filter. (no laughing) Went to clean it with the special green cleaner, and green synthetic filter oil. While doing this, I pulled my intake tube and checked out the temp sensor. (I think this is the temp sensor located on the intake tube. two wire, blue thermistor attached.) anyways.. I pull this sensor to inspect it for dirt/oil. Well, I found one side of this to have a dirt covering. nothing crazy. i don't have blow-by happening. Sure maybe from oil on the filter. BUT, I took some MAF cleaner and decided to give it a cleaning.
after putting this all together. the vehicle sat for a few hour. started the truck, and no ticking. ok... what ever maybe a fluke. 4 days now, starting my truck in the AM, no ticking.
the ticking noise was not consistent, like every engine stroke. So I was thinking maybe pre-det was happening. I was not trying to fix this situation.. it just happened to stop by doing something else. All I was hoping for was maybe improved gas milage. (speaking of this. mopar does have a tcm flush update that improves shifting, and fuel econ...plus a list of other goofy ****. worked well for me. Also noting, this flash I did was a week after cleaning the sensor. They don't correlate. )
that said, yes I know what I'm suggesting. Yes I know it sounds goofy... But someone else try this, please. PRO TIP... the sensor in question does have a small black tab. YOU NEED TO LIFT SAID TAB BEFORE TWISTING. Or this will break. spark plugs and such are still OEM, will be replacing them soon enough.
Now I have no clue what the tic was.. could have been anything. I wish I took a video or sound clip. I will come back here and update if the noise does come back. BUT I thought why not share with the group, and maybe someone else is hearing something.. and this will help you.
Also my truck does have that carbon spark arrestor flame retard material removed. lol.
Happy Holidays. Trolls cometh. lol
