I’ve got over 3000 miles since buys my truck used, but the oil life says 68% left. The oil looks fine on the dipstick. Not burnt at all. I’ve always changed according to the oil life monitor on my other vehicles. I don’t want to void the warranty tho.
Thanks in advance

Good point. The oil looked brand new when I bought it so I figured it was ok.

Dealers almost change the oil. As a CPO it almost for sure was unless a shady dealer. Still, you could change it for peace of mind. I usually change mine every 5k since I do mostly city. Change the Highlander every 7.5k but that is 90% hwy.

Dealers use bulk oil, and it’s usually conventional oil. I only use synthetic so an oil change was always one of the first things I’d do when buying used. Also, you can’t judge the condition of the oil accurately by looking at it. My advice is to change it. It’s really not expensive, and it should give you peace of mind.

As a CPO it’s also supposed to have the air filter and cabin filter checked/replaced. Both of mine were filthy & not replaced despite being “Certified”. I’d suggest checking yours too

It's entirely possible the oil was changed but the oil life monitor not reset. I have known that to be used as a tactic by unscrupulous dealers to convince a prospective buyer that an engine runs clean.
Something to know: the oil life monitor on the Ram goes down by 1% for every 100 miles, so if you wait for the oil monitor to tell you to change the oil, that'll be 10,000 miles later.

It was at 100% when I bought it

It will go down 1% per 100 only if it is driven under the appropriate conditions. The website below will explain further.

If you're concerned, an oil change with quality oil is a cheap price to pay for peace of mind.

Good luck with the new (to you) truck.

Cheap insurance, $35 - 40 for a conventional oil change.
I tend to over-maintain, especially with oil so you already know what I would say to do.

Others squeeze every % out of the oil life monitor that they can, guess if you sell every couple years it doesn’t matter.

I bought a CPO BMW 435i a couple years back. It had 33k miles on it. It was due for its maintenance interval at 40k. I took it in for an oil change and all of the 40k service requirements, paid $235 for all of it, just to get the car back and find out it still had the original air filter , the original cabin filter and they never changed the oil. Need less to say, I filed a complaint with the dealer management and got my money back, AND the services done.

Unscrupulous dealership? Yup.

I’m gonna change the oil myself. I like to do it because I know it’s done right and the oil I want to use is used.

on the flip side...I know too many guys that insist on using syn oil, and then dump it every 3k miles...to each his own I guess
