Shooting Range at your HOUSE?!?!?!?

So a quick update on my progress. I have been working on this for about 9 days off and on when i have some time. I have a 3 month old and a 2 1/2 year old so spare time is a rarity. Also i am having to do this basicallly by myself so that doesn’t speed things along very much either.

So in the pictures you will see that behind the backstop is a structure, that structure is a detached garage. I chose to put it here because if for some reason something goes through the back stop (would be practically impossible because i am going to have about 8 feet of dirt plus rail road ties) it will have to go through the detached garage and then go another 1/2 mile before coming anywhere near someone else’s property. Even though we have 4 acres any other direction would have been either pointing directly at someone’s house or pointed at someone else’s land where they keep live stock. I didn’t like either of those options so i decided on this orientation on my property.

So the structure is about 8 feet tall and about 20 feet wide gun simulator. I used (2) 4x6’s for each wall as braces with 6” screws that go into each rail road tie through each support. Hoping to finish it up in the next couple of days! Here a are a few pics of the progress.
Hello. What are the legal requirements for setting up a sub 12ft/lbs range in my garden in the UK. I seem to recall there is a rule about how far away from a public highway you need to be but I can't find it. 15 feet seems to "ring a bell". My garden is 40 metres long and 18 metres wide and private. The downside is that there is a narrow lane across the back which would be only 12 feet away if I went for max range.

In the UK? I didn't think they let you guys have guns after the mayhem of armed citizens back in '76. 🤣

There’s a mansion near me—their garage is bigger than my house—and the owners have an indoor shooting range. I don’t know them, so I’ve never seen it myself, but my old neighbors know them and say it’s even more impressive than their bowling alley.

I don’t have any of that. But I do have a ping pong table.

I don't have the acreage to shoot on our property so I keep threatening to bury two steel containers end to end and build myself an underground pistol range.

I fixed that up in bold!

That’s an idea, but I think with the cost of doing that you could buy a few acres in the country within an hour of your home for a little more, that you could freely shoot, hunt, add a small cabin, and continue to add on. Would not cost as much as you might think if you buy in the right areas that are less desirable for most.

Best decision I ever made starting young. Land is a great investment that you can have in the family for many generations. I have bought small pieces with a small cabin already on it that borders me like shown. Buying land is kinda like having babies, your never rich or prepared enough, but you make it work.IMG_0276.jpeg

Agreed, around here we just buy into a hunting club with hundreds of acres. There's usually a shooting area established. I have access to one, 15 minutesfrom the house but never find the time to go.

I bought my first piece of land when I was 19. That was 33 years, 11 houses, 2 provinces, 2 states and 2 countries ago. I can't even begin to count the things I've build and had to leave behind.
I grew up in Canada on a 200 acre farm that backed onto millions of acres of public land that we could freely hunt and explore. Everything feels like a compromise after growing up with that kind of freedom.

Not sure.
But I think you are supposed to wear a bright red coat. 😬

I’ve done many hunting clubs and there was way too much drama. Grown men acting childish, so I decided to do my own thing. I suppose they can work with the right people, but even clubs with all close friends seem to break up.

I would rather hunt a smaller property when it is my own. It’s good to be king. I am fortunate to have added acres over the years.

This 80 something subaru has been part of one of our backstrops for several years now. The backstops needing sprucing up this weekend before all the fields get planted . Snapped this Pic before piling even more dirt riddled with old tires and logs and telephone poles in front and on top of it.
