I have read a few posts regarding the weird error occurring once and while givens the following symptoms.
1) Out of the blue while driving an error will display “Service Electronic Throttle Control”
2) The Check Engine Ligt (CEL) will illuminate and the engine will go into limp mode
3) Error with Traction/Stability light will come on
Stopping and restarting the car will solve the problem, with only the CEL staying on.In a day or so also the CEL would go out. Unfortunately this only lasted a couple of hundred (and sometimes thousand) miles, but it was a certainty that it would occur again sooner or later.
My 2021 Ram 5.7 Hemi suffered the same problem. According to the documentation the Possible Causes are:
VACUUM LEAK
PCV VALVE OR HOSE LEAKING OR RESTRICTED
RESTRICTION IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM
INTERNAL ENGINE MECHANICAL COMPONENTS
RESISTANCE IN THE 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT
RESISTANCE IN THE MAP SIGNAL CIRCUIT
RESISTANCE IN THE MAP SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
MAP SENSOR
THROTTLE BODY - OBSTRUCTION OR FOREIGN OBJECT/MATERIAL
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
But after researching and testing all these possible causes and even swapped the map sensor for a new one the problem remained and kept returning every once in a while leaving us baffled.
Until………we swapped the 16 sparkplugs. They had done 50K miles and were not due yet but as a last resort we changed them for fresh one and the problem vanished. We suspect one or two sparkplugs were not “fit” anymore and that had triggered the map sensor causing the ETC error.
Hope this helps anybody out there to resolve this issue should they run in to it.
Regards
Peter
