RAM 1500 Limited has the cheapest, thinnest, most worthless PLASTIC trans oil pan. i was in a very remote part of Coconino National Forest (northern Arizona) scouting for the upcoming Elk season. small branch busted through the plastic pan and pierced my transmission, total fluid dump. and when a sealed 8-speed has total fluid loss, you are STUCK. no option to field patch & refill. shifter nob will not shift to neutral. if that wasnt bad enough, the manual release (orange tab) will not engage neutral either. basically you are up sh*t creek. rear wheels frozen.

I had to disconnect rear differential just to free up rears & drag it out. enough of the sob story.

Any skid plate recs for a lifted 5th gen '19 1500 (4" BDS)?
thank you kindly

It's weird that your manual park release under the emergency brake wouldn't allow you to tow it. My fuel pump just died on the highway and I had to use that release in order to allow the tow driver to it it on the back of the flatbed...once I released it (also won't shift into neutral when the truck won't start) he was able to pull it without all 4 wheels free...were you in 2 wheel drive at the time? 2019 limited here

Just a thought but it might be worth checking to see if MOPAR offers a skid plate that would cover the transmission where it was struck. Looking under my truck with the ORG package which comes with some of the factory skid plates. There is an extra plate covering the front differential, the transmission/transfer case, and the gas tank. The oil pan for the engine is exposed however it is a few inches higher than the front diff or transmission/transfercase.

I completely understand if you are looking for something more heavy duty after that fiasco though.

I've got a 21 Lone Star with the "protection package" It's got several skid plates but none for the trans.

It's actually a composite pan. If a stick pierced it, probably would have happened to a thin stamped steel pan as well.

As for protection, RCI Off-road makes a full set. And you can get a cast aluminum pan from PPE that has a replaceable filter

There was a guy on another forum that developed a deep sump trans pan that included a calibrated dipstick. If someone would do the same here, I'll gladly hop in line.

I thought I saw a thread where someone installed the trans skid plate from a TRX on a "normal" 1500.

I have a PPE (Pacific Power Engineering?) pan. Somewhere I posted about installing it. I'll edit this if I find the thread and link it.

Aluminum.

Sorry to hear you had this happen. Many many years ago I a similar situation only mine was a rock. And it was a Chevy. Ever since I order the off road packages on my trucks to get the skid plates more than anything.
