Rust on seal between cab and bed

I have a 22 limited and saw this the same the other day while walking by my truck. Anyone else experienced this? I am assuming the rubber has metal in it as a reinforcement for where it is mounted. I am thinking about trying to sand it down to bare metal and then doing some kind of rubber coating over the top of it. The passenger side doesn't seem as bad.

I havnt noticed that, but yes there is metal inside as a rib. Very common on those kind of seals. Depending on how thick it is, you could snip it and just put a dab of black paint over the exposed metal. Looks simular to door seal trim you can buy online for cheap.
