Since the roof lights normally found on heavier pickups are required by federal law to give other vehicles an indication of the size of the vehicle, I wonder why the lights are not required for lifted 1500s. The basic reason for the lights is to indicate the height of the truck.

Not required if the vehicle is under 80". Which is why they are standard on duallies but an option on single rear tires.
