Has anyone replaced and programmed an ORC (Occupant Restraint Controller) on a 2019+ DT Ram themselves? Is dealer programming required? Alldata indicates that the “Initialize ORC Miscellaneous Function” must be performed with a diagnostic scan tool after replacement. I do see an “Initialize ORC” function available when connected directly to the airbag module—just trying to confirm whether running that procedure is sufficient or if dealer-level programming is still required.

Background:

I removed the dash to repair an HVAC mode door actuator. During the process, the battery went dead and the truck had to be jump started. Since then, I’ve had persistent ABS, traction control, trailer brake, and auto start/stop warnings. The codes clear, but they immediately return.

Using AlfaOBD, I checked live data and found the lateral acceleration reading stuck at 1465 m/s² while the truck is sitting still (obviously impossible). The ABS/ESC system relies on the ORC’s internal dynamic sensor (yaw, lateral, and longitudinal acceleration) for stability control calculations. Because that lateral value is invalid, the ABS module disables ESC, which then disables traction control, trailer brake, and auto start/stop.

When I unplug the ORC, the lateral, longitudinal, and yaw readings all drop to 0, confirming the erroneous data is coming from the ORC’s internal dynamic sensor.
