Rear shock swap

I'm looking to swap out the rear shocks that came with my Rough Country 6" lift (N3) with some Fox 2.0. Is this something I can do with the truck on the ground or is a lift or jack necessary? I looks like I can just loosen the bolts and compress the shock but I may be mistaken.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

That's all you need to do, but compressing the shock isn't as easy as it sounds. It's usually easier to just jack up one side of the frame to get the shock extended all the way, then swap them. Unbolting the sway bar will give you more extension as well.
