Twice now I have attempted closed my rear driver side door and it did not latch and bounced back open. It appears the latch mechanism is not working properly. I was able to hit the lock/unlock button and the latch functioned and the door closed.

Does this sound like something that needs a little grease or is this going to be a door latch replacement? I have an extended warranty which runs out in March with a $200 deductible. My concern is since its a sporadic issue they will not be able to replicate. I watched a video and it seems you have take to take the entire door panel off which does not sound fun to me.

I'd personally try spraying some lube on the latch before going dealer route.

I had the door fail to latch again so I used a bungee cord and drove to the dealership to have them verify. I have an appointment Thurs. I don't have much faith in this service dept. from previous experience but they are the closet dealership.

I learned years ago to record issues on my phone and have it available for the service center. That way if/when they cant replicate it i have proof. Its saved me twice over the last ten years or so.

I've tried that with three different dealers, and unless they can replicate it it isn't broke.
Sad.....

in case of emergency and the latch is closed down when the door is open you hold the outside door handle open and with the other hand flip the latch to the open position . Also before slamming the door only to have it bounce back first look at the position of the latch before shutting the door. One way it s lock is open faced and the wrong way is the closed position when door is open.... I hope I understood your issue. It shouldn't t be a big issue either way.
