Random part in new truck

I just got my new truck and this part was inside - any ideas what it is, should it be installed, should I just trash it??

It’s a plug for the harness when you removed the tailgate so crap doesn’t get in the plug. Drop the tailgate and you’ll see how it fits.

Its weird the dealer doesn't tell you about it. I had the exact same question when i found my mystery bag of parts!!!

It also jumps out the tailgate closed switch so you don't get a nuisance alarm with the tailgate removed.

I discovered it a few days after delivery. I had to call the salesman to figure out what it was. He was apologetic about net telling me at delivery. I didn't get the full delivery experience because it was New Years Eve and snowing when I bought the truck. I just wanted to get it home before conditions got worse.
