Ram Isn’t Saying NO To A 5.7-liter HEMI® RHO

A Simpler, V8-Powered Desert Runner Might Still Happen

Could a V8-powered Ram 1500 RHO still happen? Maybe.

Even though the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter HURRICANE I6 High-Output (H/O) makes way more power and torque, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis recently admitted that the idea of a 5.7-liter HEMI®-powered RHO isn’t totally off the table.

Back in 2020/21, when the TRX first came out I was asking for a TRX with the 5.7 Hemi. Basically a TRX appearance package. I didn’t need a truck with 700 hp but I liked how the TRX looked. And I figured a TRX appearance package with the 5.7 Hemi would be more affordable. But an RHO with a Hemi would likely be the same price as the RHO with the HO Hurricane, as it includes all the off-road goodies as well (which I don’t need). That’s not just an appearance package, and would be priced higher than I am comfortable with. I wouldn’t be a buyer if that’s the case.

A regular 5.7L Hemi with 395 hp is probably way too weak to do the TRX/RHO platform justice. I love the Hemi and wouldn't buy a 1500 RAM without one, but its power is just middle of the road in a regular 1500, much less a bigger, heavier "baja" truck.

The 6.4L on the other hand...
