I'd like to see what you Tow (preferably) and or carry. If you know your truck and know the weights post it here! I'd Love to see'em

Here is what I tow. Although it is usually on a trailer.

I towed this from NY to Monterey and back last summer. Just under 5k unloaded. Hemi, 3.21, no Air suspension. Felt slightly under trucked the entire trip. The biggest issue though was the 26-gallon tank. Miserable beyond belief. Stopped 3-4 times a day for gas. You had 250 miles range when full so every 150 miles you were looking for a gas station. In Utah, on HWY 50 I had to empty the 5 gallons of generator gas in the tank to make it to the next station at one point. Missed the turn for the station. Nothing out there!

I traded it for a 1500 Limited Hemi Etourque with 3.92 gears and the much-needed 33-gallon tank. This one has air suspension. Yet to tow with it as the camper is snowed in. Mid-April will be the maiden voyage and see if the gearing makes that much difference. Love the 33-gallon tank already.

It'll make a huge difference... I tow my 7500 lb boat with the same setup (3.92/ET/33 gallon/air suspension) and it is quite stable on the highway. Mileage still sucks at around 9-10 MPG at highway speeds, but the 33 gallon tank makes it palatable.

Sorry to stomp on the 3.21 thread...so I'll share that a buddy has a '19 with the 3.21 gears and he hauls a work trailer that's got to tip 4500 lbs loaded, while also having a ladder rack in the bed. Seems to do just fine.

Well, I went the other way as I had the HEMI V8 with 3.92 gears in my old truck and traded for the "19 Limited with 3.21 as Dodge said it was equal w?8spd.trans?? but I did get a 33gallon tank

The weight wasn't the issue with the camper. It got it up to speed and you hardly knew it was back there up until about 40 MPM. Then that huge camper front acted like a big sail and the wind resistance was brutal. With a head wind, it really was wound out. Usually, the boats don't have as much wind resistance. I have seen some big boats being towed though that stuck up in the air pretty good!

I liked the feel of shifting with the 3.21's better. Smoother and less sporty??? The 3.92's shift faster and I can notice this pretty good.

I am going off what someone posted on here that is supposed to be the final say on the gear debate:)

5) Speed range that 3.21 is better at towing: 31-38 MPH, 48-57 MPH.

6) Speed range that 3.92 is better at towing: 0-30 MPH, 39-47MPH, 58-70 MPH.

That 58-70 is where it was pretty brutal. Hope this proves true!

I have a Chalet XL a-frame camper. 19‘ long, weighs about 31-3200 loaded for trip. Height is just over 6’ folded down and it’s about the same width as the Ram. Getting 15,3 average MPG towing at 65-57 mph on interstate (Florida flat). Gets about 19 on 55mph back road, including a few “eco” mode miles (@30+ MPG). Very happy with performance. 3.21 gears, 20” wheels.

I had wife and kids inside and 1800 pounds of tiles on a pallet in the back. Other times I had full bed of soil. Each time raising/lowering was disabled due to weight but other than that the truck performed really well. When buying wood pellets for burning in my stove I usually take half ton and it's like it's not even there. I lower the truck to load and unload and it's a piece of cake. 10/10 would buy again.

40FF4E43-3EC4-4E82-940D-C552CFA6A0DE.jpeg Granted I have the 3.92 gearing, 27 foot Jayco... about 8200k wet. No issues but you can feel it’s there, just gotta slow your roll a bit. I came from a super duty pulling this trailer and I’m pleased with how it pulls....

Smart trade, you'll like/need the extra range.
