Greetings All,

Been a minute since I've been here being that I mostly post on Reddit, but now that my new car purchase project for the wife is completed, it's my turn.....

I've been in the market for a preowned 1500 '19+ Limited or Longhorn for quite some time now and readying to pull the trigger on whatever is available in the next month or two. I just bought a new car for the wife and I always buy 2 or 3 years used bc I put on the miles since I travel around FL for work (Commercial RE), probably around 17-20K/yr. I'm OK with doing some repairs and typical parts replacements, as it always beats any depreciation I get on my cars by far. I usually go in the 35-65K range pending various factors of the deal and vehicle, but being the HEMI a trusted and true V8 (well, given a few hiccups here and there.... and definitely veering away from the EcoD), I'll go as far as 80K miles so long as I can get a good carfax and track as much ownership, use and maintenance history as possible. Note that I've been on forums and done so much damn research (2 years) at this point that I can build this thing, but still doesn't beat real world feedback.

That said, I'm looking for the owners here who have purchased high mile 5th Gen HEMI's (especially eTorque), or those with high miles (excess of 80K) on their trucks who can give me your experience with issues and what to look out for on my search.

Huge thanks in advance for any help and looking fwd to joining the owner's lounge soon....

Not to be that guy, but 80k is not high milage.

I have a 2020 etorque hemi, no issues. The etorque doesn't seem to be a pain point, however you hear an occasional story. As with everything, milage will vary.

Yea, I'd agree that 80k is on the low side for what I'd consider high mileage. Depends on the year too however.

Regardless, I've got a 2020 hemi with the etorque sitting at right around 63,000 miles. Truck has been near flawless save for the exhaust manifolds. As mentioned previously some folks have issues with etorque but mines been great and I really enjoy it.

I will say I also keep my vehicles for a long time as well. The etorque has given me some pause on what that may look like. However, I'm not too concerned since I've done my research. Seems like the electric motor unit can be replaced without a trip to the dealer as long as you keep your electronics on top but mount the new/used generator unit to it. No need to flash. I also believe you can change the battery pack yourself, however, you will have to get it flashed for proper operation.

So yes, definitely the potential for more expensive repairs than a non etorque but I think manageable.

Im the same as you. I buy used trucks that are 2-3 years old. Right when the lions share of depreciation has occured.
Like everyone else, I think 80K is the absolute beginning of "high mileage"

I bought my 21 Laramie with 76K, and I had 2 people think it was "right off the lot". Im guessing it was a lease vehicle, because it is pristine.

Ive owned 1500s for my last 3 trucks, and except for nitpicky stuff, they have been very reliable. My last truck had 200K miles on it, and the only real repair was the starter crapping out.

I’d rather have kept my 19’ Limited hemi non-et than keep this 23’ Limited hemi et for 150K miles or more.
Don't fully understand nor do I trust the et system, but 23’s all had it.

I just traded (a few months ago) a 16' Laramie 3500 Dually with 43k miles in on a 19' 1500 Hemi Limited with 59k miles (non et) even trade. Went outside the dealership to get a factory MaxCare warranty which has already paid for itself.
