Possible trailer rental for family vacation, weight questions

Trying to figure out whether or not my Ram can tow a trailer.

Total payload is 1505; have a Leer shell which is about 180lbs; family of 4 plus dog at ~720lbs; guessing ~200lbs of stuff; leaves me an available 405 lbs. With a tongue weight of ~13% I can tow a trailer of around 3500lbs fully loaded. Sound correct?

Put the 200# of stuff in the trailer, gives you more tongue weight capability.

If I am doing it correctly, that would bump trailer weight to about 5000? Doesn't seem right in my head but, math ain't my thing lol

3,850 lbs * .13 = 500 lbs tongue weight

180 lb cap + 720 lb family + 500 lb TW + 100 lb WDH = 1,500 lbs of total payload

Thank you. Figured I did that wrong. I'm thinking 3 weeks in a trailer that comes in under 4k won't be real fun for 4 people and a 90lb shepherd lol. I guess we'll just hotel it.

Taking the bed cap off will boost you upto ~5,250 lbs trailer

Leave the family at home, you'll have a great time!

Not that it/s much, but you could also move things like the spare tire to the trailer to give you alittle more wiggle room.

Thanks guys. Glad I did some research. I was thinking a 6k lb trailer would be no problem. I didn't buy it to tow, that just recently came up as a vacation idea. But I never realized that the towing capacity is so low for such a large pick up.
